If someone asks you on a public internet forum if you have "ever fucked a corpse", would you be out of line by responding with "only your mother"?

Most of us know the context of the statement from a debate thread.
It was an irrelevant distraction. Any response connected to it would be irrelevant to the original discussion.

This was the question:

Come on lets talk military Joe.
Ever fuck a corpse

I waited to see what that meant in military jargon. but all it appears to have meant was 'did you ever have sex with a dead person?'.
Irrelevant to the question of having served in the military.

Both comments are bad forum etiquette. But the latter would be a begged response in retaliation.


And the outcome is that the diversion has obviously type cast the author in the minds of many that read it.

Problem is some people start to lie and than forget where they are.. Get caught in their own lies and then try to backtrack..

I used to post at a site that felt like you. They wanted debate structured. It got to beyond being silly.

Indeed....I was there with you and draconian rules along with selective censorship gutted participation.
Intellectual debate was stifled as certain mods ruled in favor of their own cred.

Open debate brings in a lot more interest to a debate forum than draconian rules, imo.

I agree but when ours get beyond silly, sometimes I think the thread should be closed before someone gets banned.. Just my opinion..

There is an element of civility and commonsense to consider.....but from my experience at another debate forum, rule making and new interpretations can get carried away in strictness to the the point I saw a mod make ethnic jokes at another member's expense that would have gotten me banned but all that occurred was a massive deletion of posts as a cover up.
If I hadn't been online watching it unfold, I never would have known.
It wasn't THE reason I left that site, but it was the final straw.


I like OTZ and it's admin and hope it stays the same as it it now.

And this is why I prefer thread be closed than deleted by member who try goading others..

There comes a time when posters are not interested in debate but rather just winning at all cost to the other member. Hence getting them banned.

I can think of a few who were really good at it but have not posted in a while.

Even the creme de la creme would lose it with these members.. Best not to get to that point..
