That's those who don't eat meat because they think it's cruel to kill animals. If everyone was to stop eating meat, what would happen to farm animals who's sole purpose is to provide us with meat? There would have to be a mass cull where a lot of breeds of animals would become extinct would there not? How does this save animals lives?:confused

i was a vegetarian for a long time and a vegan for a while as well but it had nothing to do with cruelty to animals. it had to do with being healtier and then once i started, i was hooked. i was a vegetarian and then vegan for about 6 years in total

apparently if we were all veggy then we could easily feed the world.
animals are bred for food wouldnt be bred at all..i live ina rural environment and the trouble it takes to get a bull to actually manage to shag a cow is unbelievable.
dairycattle would still be bred.
it takeds less energy to produce pulses and legumes than to produce beef steak

i was veggy for 13 years ,strictly veggie evn renet free cheese...what changed was i got pregnant and craved meat, theres a b vitamin not stored by humans after a certain length of time ,and i needed it.

I know this isn't a debate about which is the better choice, but you will never convince me that vegan is the healthier choice....We are omnivores, I am guessing that means....Many, I just have never thought it was healthy...

:homo:
I found out first hand it wasn't healthy and then when I went back to school, my biology and nutrition classes further cemented that. Vegetarian no more.

i dont think vegan is a good choice either...because my body needed meat when pregnant it was a wake up call i suppose .we still eat a lot of veggie food as i like to buy organic and free range which is better for me and the environment but obviously more expensive.but i think the healthiest option for the first world would be to eat less meat in general, there are some great foods out there than meat eaters never try.also a lot of indian food is veggie and since porphyria and i are curry addicts... :D.

i shall have to do some veggie recipes in the foody section me thinks;)

i think thats because in the developed world we have lots of processed foods.
if you combine brown rice with lentils it makes long protein chains for your body ..do it with white rice and it doesnt.

good veggie food is labour intensive also and for most people with heqavy work committments etc that can be a little difficult too

next time a i do a veggie speciality grace ill pass you some through the screen;):D

I have been eating less meat then I had been (which still wasnt much) because of the weight loss I have been working on... Red meat hs done a # of my stomach, and it takes alot to digest

So, it has nothing to do with the mammals :)

I do think Parka raises an interesting question though, the vas majority of cattle raised are for the purpose of food, either meat or dairy.

I don't think I ever thought about it....If we quit eating the buggers, they'll overthrow us:D

The way I see it, eating them is saving civilization as we know it:D

I don't eat processed foods. I only eat whole foods. (then and now) So that was not the reasoning for my answer. The reasoning was as I stated.

None taken. I just wanted to clear up the assumption, so you wouldn't think I was a process food eating dummy that didn't know how to combine foods to get nutrients. ;)

Yeah, it is time consuming for us veggies making our meals from scratch and these days, I don't have as much time as I did say 5 years ago - I used to make everything myself.

I don't eat meat just because I can't stand that texture and taste and if i see a minute amount of blood anywhere, then I am gagging. I also can't stand the feel of raw meat, you know, when handling it to put in to roast - it makes me squirm. :yuk :yuk

I have to admit though, I do now buy the micro meals at times - it has got a bit bad lately though, so I am working on stocking up my cupboards again to start making my own more than I am right now.

I cook wholemeal rice too Debs - it's got a lovely flavour to it and with curry, you'd never know really. Also in stuffed peppers, it's lovely in them too.

Lentils are very nice too - chick peas also. :)
