For all of you god fearing parents out there, I have a hypothetical question for you: If god came to you in a vision one day, and commanded you to kill your children, much like some of the tales in the bible, would you obey god's will and kill your children? Or would you directly disobey your creator?

Oh, and none of "MY GOD WOULD NEVER DO THAT!" stuff. Just answer the question, and explain why you chose what you chose.

Pretty sure God commanded someone in the Bible to do that once so that rules out Christians from using that as an excuse. Personally I'd tell God to go fuck himself but I will use the excuse that the God I believe in would never tell me to do that seeing I believe in him through what I see in what I believe he made and not the God that writes a load of crap in books.;)

I'm not necessarily a God fearing person as you put it, but I am a parent and I say no vision of anything...God or otherwise could convince me to harm my kids in any way. Nothing on planet earth or beyond is more important to me than my kids well being.

Ron, let's flip this on you and forget your question.
Instead, I propose that you (and other atheists) answer this...
If in a dream, you were throughly convinced that God spoke to you and told you to shape up or risk hell...would you believe?

Well, are you Christian, at least?

No, lets answer the question.

No, no I wouldn't because i would realize that dreams are dreams and if god wants to come to me and tell me something, he can do it in a less vague way that can be misconstrued as a mere dream and nothing more.

This is the same answer every parent will give then. So question answered.

Ok then, if you want a more concrete way of doing things. Lets say god WALKS UP TO YOU and talks to you in person about this.

There you go.
