i agree on taxation. This is a capatalistic nation, and I do believe anything is possible. Getting a government job or an associates degree is not impossible, even if you are dirt poor. It is not fair that people who have succeeded should be penalized more than someone else. However, it is important no to confuse punishment to the poor with this either.

I agree, which is again why I say we should have a straight-line tax regardless of income. If you make $10/yr or $1,000,000/yr, you should be taxed the same 20% (or whatever is enough to pay for everything we need to pay for). And no deductions or silly crap like that either.

Can you imagine how low our taxes would be if we didn't have welfare or social security, and didn't give deductions or tax cuts to anyone? We'd probably be down to a 10% tax rate! Talk about stimulating the economy...

kind of unrealistic ideas Sarge even if they are a wish list.

no way SS is going away. and it should not as we have too much committed. at the time it was started it was a safety net. not meant to be a retirement account

short term welfare is a small tax sacrifice for us to pay

Both were started for good reasons.

As to no deductions with a flat tax i don't think that would ever fly and not sure it should.

some things would have to be exempt such as food and medicine

Yeah I know, it's not ever going to happen. It's just what I'd LIKE to see. :)

Obama is heading towards socialism. I don't see how you can argue against that. He's all but stated he's for the redistribution of wealth in America for "fairness" sake.

And what does redistribution of wealth mean to you? If it means that the rich go back to a tax rate that is pre-Shub, (a tax rate that McCain supported) it does not bother me at all.

You have missed the point. This is not about having everyone as rich as each other, it's about making sure of a general acceptable standard of living for everyone. Even the bums should have that.

Pete,
I've not missed your point which is valid. :) Conservatives are using "redistribution of weath" as a buzzword means to scare people. I was just asking the Sarge what he thought the term means.

Nope, the bums don't deserve it. If they can't get off their rears and find a job so they can provide for themselves, they deserve to live in a shelter!

Otherwise, I'm going to stop working and play video games all day while the government pays for my livelyhood.

Its kind of ironic that that is the kind of attitude expressed by the terrorists you hate so much.;)

Is it really? I kind of doubt it.

They hate America because America is rich and whatever else they call us... I never heard anything about homeless people from them though.

What kind of welfare do you think was around under Saddam, one of the richest men on earth? Or under the Taliban?

point is,the hard workers will get rewarded.......you study hard you'll get your just rewards...but.....if a man goes to work 5 days a week he should be getting more than minimum wage for doing so.......especially if hes working for a huge corporation

I'm guessing.... none? Look, I'm sure Saddam would have agreed with me on the law of gravity too, but that doesn't mean we're bed buddies.

Why? Why should he be getting more that the minimum wage, when he agreed to work for minimum wage to start with?

That's the thing. If someone wants to make more than minimum wage, they'll either work hard in a job that has potential moving-up possibilities, or they will go to school and better themselves. Anyone who is complacent with getting paid minimum wage doesn't deserve anything more than minimum wage.

Heck no! Not until I know more about it. I have no idea how welfare worked in that country.

I agree with the welfare policy I've already set out: If you're able to work, you shouldn't be getting welfare.

What about if you're able to work but the jobs arn't there? I've lived through one reccesion as a working man and we're entering into another.
