A good way to think of wealth distribution (i.e. socialism + Obama)

So I heard someone giving this example at work the other day, and thought it merited sharing around with you all.

Think of two college students, Mike and Bill. Mike is always studying hard, spending hours and hours pouring over books in his room every night. Bill goes out and parties all the time, and never really studies at all. Their grades reflect the way they spend their time, as Mike gets almost straight A's, and Bill is often flunking out of his classes and getting C's and D's in the rest.

Graduation time comes, and Mike is ready to graduate with a 3.981 GPA. Bill has such a low GPA that he can't graduate yet - he has to retake classes. But wait! A new president of the university has been brought into power! This new president believes it's not fair to let anyone fail, so he goes up to Mike, and says this:

"Sorry Mike, I'm going to have to take some of your A's and swap them with some of Bill's D's so he can graduate. It's not fair to let anyone fall behind! Everyone should have an equal opportunity at life."

Isn't this exactly what we are up against with redistribution of wealth? People who work hard and get "straight A's" with money, just get it taken away from them and it's given to those who don't work hard and are getting "D's"! We all already have an equal opportunity to be the one who is getting A's, whether it be in college or in the working world.

Just thought this was a great way to think of why socialism isn't a good idea.

i posted this in the Exile thread but it is worth repeating. the democrats are liars. and if this aint a clear example of spreading of the wealth I don't know what is.

Top 1%
If you are lucky or hard-working enough to have earned $364,657 in 2006, the last year for which data is fully available, you are in the top 1% of earners.
That group earned 22% of all income and paid 40.4% of all taxes levied on individuals.
The top 1% paid almost as much as the lower 95%! The percent of taxes paid by the top 1% has increased from 19% of all tax to the current 40% over the last 25 years.

Top 5%
$145,283 in earnings landed you in the top 5% of earners, and the top 5% paid 60% of all taxes.

Top 10%
$103,912 was needed to qualify for the top 10%, and that group paid 70% of all taxes.

Top 25%
The top 25% of incomes (over $62,066) paid 86% of taxes.

This is the statistics those liberal bastards are such liars about. I can't tell you how many times I've heard them moan about the rich getting richer, blah, blah, fucking, blah. Yes--everyone has gotten richer in the last 25 years--who gives a fuck if somebody makes a million dollars as long as other people are also making money? These stupid liberals are forever trying to kill the golden goose--tax the people who create all the jobs in the country until there is no one left to create any more jobs except the fucking government--a liberal's utopia and a free man's nightmare.

What's more amazing are the idiots that can't see it--the bassets, winos, poochees, et al--you can show those fuckers 1+1=2 until you're blue in the face and they can't see it (or won't see it).

don't make me puke

those people seriously nauseate me.

I even got somebody there to admit to me he finally saw what we were complaining about with their idiot posts with the cut and crap and the smilies.

but ya it is amazing these numbers don't hit home with anybody. it should send a flag that what we are doing now in the way of levying taxes is not the problem. the problem is spending. and the republicans did little with Bush to do a damn thing about that. one thing the liberals are right on is that Bush and the republicans spent like drunk sailors

I don't think anyone argues that the spending has gone through the roof. Part of that is due to the war, but there's a ton of other stuff that didn't need more money put towards it.... like *cough* global warming *cough*.

sounds like a fair example

Really? Sounds like a bull shit example to me if you and like thinkers are using this argument to make a case against Obama. Am I surprised? HELL NO. :)

Obama is not a socialist, he does not want everyone to be income neutral. If he did, I would not support him. The only ones pushing this BS are members of the party whose party just slapped.

Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy. Sums Obamas policies to a fucking T!

Obama is heading towards socialism. I don't see how you can argue against that. He's all but stated he's for the redistribution of wealth in America for "fairness" sake.
