16 just seems a bit young is why, like their not much more than a child still. My step daughter is almost 16 and I think if she told my hubby she'd met and was marrying a 51 year old he'd absolutely kick the crap out of him.....................so in that case it would be hurting someone:p

But it is legal to marry, to have sex in certain states of the US, and over here (UK), for people to say it is creepy, borders on telling people what too do, everyone in life has to start learning for themselves you can't cocoon a person forever

no not forever but I still think 16 is very very young to get married at all(most people are still going to school at that age) regardless of the age of the other person.

Now, I don't really give a crap about these two, I don't even know them but If it were one of my kids I would, even if they did stay together (which is highly doubtful) when she 36 he'd be 71, she'll end up being his carer at such a young age.

Well to say to someone that it is too young to marry, that is a matter for two people to decide, all we can do is try support either one of them on their decision to either marry or not, rather than call the older man, as most cases it tends to be (no one knows of any 'creepy' old women marrying and younger male). As I, I don't really much care about them two, but I do think that "creepy" is rather over used. I would find it creepy if the girl was underage and somehow the whoever presided over them, allowed it to happen. If the girl and man love each other, like who is anyone to say they don't, to me smacks of something of an ulterior motive on their part

Not at all. It's absolutely not their fault if your husband has an anger problem.

Parents care about their kids and what happens to them, I'd guess that most parents would have a huge problem with their 16 year old daughter, first of all getting married but an even bigger one to someone 35 years older. It's strange the way the law works, If the girl was a few months younger that man would be considered a paedophile.

Speaking as a 51 year old. I certainly do not see what I would have in common with someone 35 years younger than me. I have shoes older than her. I have two kids older than her. It is just wierd to me. 35 years is a lifetime.

Beating up a person who's not breaking any laws and not hurting anyone is unreasonable.

It was obviously a jokey comment

And I do believe that a 51 year old man marrying a 16 year old girl is going to hurt her. 16 is too young to get married, if she was marrying someone her own age it would also be bad but the person she's marrying wouldn't know any better, a 51 year old man should. I would oppose anyone trying to take advantage of my child like that. You can argue with me all you want but at the end of the day I'd be willing to bet my life you're attitude would change if you had a daughter and she ended up in that situation.

exactly and you would think if this man really did love the girl he'd realise that marrying a 16 year old is selfish on his part

Everyone's going to get hurt at some part of life. If it's her decision, it's no one elses business.

You're deemed too young to vote or buy a drink or even buy a lottery ticket (in Ireland anyway) at 16 so I'm quite sure most parents would consider there daughter to be still under their care and guidance at 16, law or no law.

A lot of these age related laws are arbitrary and out-dated, in few ways do they form a cohesive and comparable framework towards age and legality.

Yes, because everyone knows that 16 year olds who drink a beer and buy a lottery ticked suffer extreme damage.

Not always, depends on the state. The majority I believe practice a 15-year or younger need for parental consent.

Don't put words into my mouth, I never said that, I was simply saying that I found it odd that you weren't allowed do those things till you're 18 (which I believe are much more trivial) but you can get married. But apparently, you can't get married at 16 without your parents permission so it wouldn't be an issue anyway.
