I'm shocked by this event. My first impulse is to say "guns don't kill people, people kill people!" <Sarcasm> Actually, guns make it really easy to kill people. I'm not a gun ban advocated, but a smart gun control advocate. If all the teachers had guns, maybe they could have defended themselves. That's a devil's advocate statement. The evidence is that the U.S. has a unique problem. How do we fix this- orderly society or Wild West? I'm waiting for the NRA to kick into high gear messaging...

As far as was this shooter insane or evil- my tendency is to say insane, especially when the senselessness of the act is analyzed, although this does not preclude "evil".

How to stop it?

Therapy for all?

If it's true that the shooter was a combat vet suffering from PTSD, that's just further proof that we don't do enough for our veterans when they come back home. It doesn't excuse it and it never will...but it's a shame.

I haven't heard the report about him having PTSD.

However, I've got two very close friends diagnosed with PTSD. One was from a brain injury suffered while overseas. Both got the help they needed, and are doing great. I think some people just ignore the help in front of them. They get this "i'm too good for help" mentality and that doesn't usually help things. PTSD is curable. Without medication. There's thousands of walking examples of it.

No, the servicemen/women don't get the help they typically need, but it takes self control also. It is proven that 90% of the violent crimes associated with people that were deployed stem from incidents before they joined the military. Just like the people with criminal records and gang activity on their record can walk right into the recruiters office and get signed up to fight for the country.

Aside from that, he's still a piece of shit.

I did wonder what would have happened if a teacher in the school was allowed to carry a concealed weapon on school property. I'm a gun advocate, and will be getting my concealed carry license in January. (hopefully before they double the price because of selfless, stupid acts as this) I don't think it would have made a huge difference because he did the shooting in one room, mostly. But I think we'll end up back at the argument of allowing teachers with a concealed carry permit and gun control classes to carry on school property. If you'll think back to 9/11...we never had anyone on commercial flights with a gun. Now, you have 2-4 air marshals in plain clothes carrying concealed on every flight. Why not do something like this in the schools? I say it's a good idea, but we all know how big brother is when it comes to guns.

As the story broke today on Fox News, the ticker at the bottom read "President Obama supports the ban on assault rifles"

What I find ironic, is the man used a pistol. Not an assault rifle. He was just nuts. A fucking nut. That is all.

I'm off my high horse. He's a FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT. :usa:

Story I just got off the news by an fbi profiler was he hated his mother,,,the students were just an extension of his mother.
I will take that as an extreme jealousy killing.

Ryan Lanza was falsely identified, it was his brother Adam Lanza.
Ryan found out the same as us only to find his face all over the news as the killer, yet he was at work though whole time.

The weapons used were registered to the mother, Nancy Lanza.

The events from this tragedy, as they unfolded over time got more and more horrendous, not to mention complicated.
I think it's important to remember, speaking for myself as a gun rights advocate and being proudly armed for safety's sake;
Guns don't kill people, sick people with guns kill people.

May God bless all the families who are dealing with this and eternal peace to those who were taken from this earth much too soon.
I'll hug my granddaughter a little tighter when I see her at Christmas, and I appreciate my little Ruger even more than ever.

I really cannot understand how anyone thinks like that. Killing innocence makes no sense. Destroying so many lives and ruining so much for so many. Why not just off yourself first.
