Nobody at that age is really depressed... I hate to say it like that, but... I mean I understand having stress and stuff like that, because yeah, its hard to be 13, but depression? No.
There's nothing to actually be depressed about unless some majorly tragic event happened, and in this case, it doesnt really seem like anything "bad" was happening to her except somebody was pushing her buttons over the Internet... so basically she was just stupid. I wish people would stop using depression for everything when they're freakin teenagers.

Its very easy to be depressed at a young age. And how do you know that nothing major was going on in her life?

There are a lot of causes to depression and children and teens can have it just as easily as an adult.
If they're diagnosed with it... Wait till they grow up and start having to pay bills, take care of kids, go to work... At work you're still going to have to deal with people talking shit about you. It's not so bad now.

I think someone wouldve pointed it out. Depression is just a term thats used instead of saying that you're sad or upset or stressed out. Unless you're diagnosed with it, then no.

Look I have worked at psych hospitals and I have seen some pretty fucked up 8 year olds let alone teenagers. It is very easy for kids to be deppressed. It all depends on thier situation. But to kill yourself over the internet. I pretty fucking lame.

An adult made the fake profile and knowingly screwed with a mentally ill girl. Even if they can't charge them with anything, that's gonna be one hell of a wrongful death lawsuit.

And Dodge, wtf is your problem? You compare yourself to this girl like you're in the same situation or something. Obviously, you're not. You can't know what she was going through, calm down.

I'm not comparing myself. I'm saying that she SHOULD have been more mature about it. That's what plays into her death. Her maturity. She was UNDER the age required to join Myspace, and faked her age to join. Therefore, she caused her own death. If she had followed the rules, she'd be alive and well right now. Wrongful death would not really be a lawsuit that could be filed. As the sheriff in the article stated, no laws were broken. They played a PRANK. A prank that most teenagers(TEENAGERS, not little girls) would have shrugged off, or even laughed at. She was underage, and couldn't handle the pressure. Maybe that's why Tom has that rule for his website?

The people involved(A parent, as well as a teenager) pulled off this prank well within the limits of the law. This girl took it to heart, and because of that, she killed herself.

Nobody at that age is really depressed... I hate to say it like that, but... I mean I understand having stress and stuff like that, because yeah, its hard to be 13, but depression? No.

Agreed. Sad? Maybe. But depression is defined as a psychiatric disorder, characterized by a persistent lowering of mood, loss of interest in usual activities and diminished ability to experience pleasure. The parents state in this article that she was very BUBBLY AND UPBEAT. You can't just snap out of depression.

Its very easy to be depressed at a young age. And how do you know that nothing major was going on in her life?

What major thing could have happened to her? Read this part of the article:

Megan had been on medication, but had been upbeat before her death, her mother said, after striking up a relationship on MySpace with Josh Evans about six weeks before her death.

Doesn't sound like depression to me really. The "depression" didn't happen until around a month before she died.
To me, ADD and ADHD are made-up "diseases."

When I was younger, we called it being a normal kid.

:D Rep'd.

Definately. It's just a part of life. I've said it before, and will say it again. This girl was the person that was wrong. She let some internet boyfriend, AN INTERNET BOYFRIEND, get to her. If she had followed the guidelines set by Myspace, she'd be alive right now.

Look I have worked at psych hospitals and I have seen some pretty fucked up 8 year olds let alone teenagers. It is very easy for kids to be deppressed. It all depends on thier situation. But to kill yourself over the internet. I pretty fucking lame.

That's what I'm trying to say.

Really? Read what you've written so far.

The girl sounds like some depressed emo kid. And for the records, I have ADHD/ADD, and I'm by no means depressed.

The kid let dramatic bullshit get under her skin. I've had plenty of people say "You're a faggot, I hate you, go die, you're better off dead". But do I listen to them? No. If I did, I wouldn't be sending you this message.

What parent would let an underage child, BEFORE the age of 14, have a Myspace? Hell, I'm fucking 16, and my mom didn't want me to have a Myspace about 6 months ago, after seeing so many news reports. I had to BEG her and tell her that I'm old enough not only legally, but maturity-wise.

She killed herself over a BOY. I had a relationship with a girl I really liked last year, and it didn't work out. Should I have killed myself?

Yes, it was morally wrong for the people to do this simply as a joke, but it's not illegal. I've done it before.

She could have shrugged it off as a loss, and not killed herself over a stupid "boy". Like I said, me and a friend ended a close relationship, but I never killed myself over her.

Like I said, I'm 2 years above the age limit, and it took 6 months to convince my mom to let me have a Myspace. This is a case of bad parenting at it's best.
Sounds like a lot of comparisons going on there.

You don't have to commit a crime to lose a wrongful death lawsuit. OJ was found innocent in a court of law. Then the family sued him for wrongful death and won.

Wouldnt comparing be more like saying the same thing happened to him? Instead of just proving that it happens to other people too?

Maybe she stopped taking her meds because she felt better. That's not really that uncommon.

Yes, but the comparisons you pointed out aren't that much different. If I post every single day, "Donnie, you're a fucking prick", are you going to kill yourself? I'd assume the answer is no. She was underage, and the age limits are there for a reason. Younger people are not mature enough to be on Myspace, and this story proves that. As for the relationship and being allowed on Myspace comparisons, again, true. I'm only 2 years older than this girl was. Relationships aren't something to kill yourself over. Everybody gets hurt. Move on and find a new boy. The "being allowed on Myspace" line was to show, her parents were to blame. They were not being responsible. If they were watching her online activity, as they said, why did they not see that she was lying about her age?

He never said, "I met a guy online and he was fake and his parents talked to me and pretended to be him, then I killed myself."

Ha, I dunno about you, but I LOVE meeting fake guys online. Men <3 :rofl2: For your information, I DID kill myself over this hot guy last week. Does that make me a zombie or something?

Well in that case, I would have to agree. The prank could have affected her on an emotional level, coupled with the affects of being off the medication. But as I said, she could have avoided this all by simply following the rules, or having responsible parents.

Question...

I dont add people I dont know on MySpace.
Shouldn't her parents of been more concerned that she was talking to some random guy on the Internet, and if they were reading her messages, figured she was "falling" for him?
Maybe they dont have any news channels... or the paper

Maybe she's Amis...oh wait...never mind. If I was her father, I'd probably go, "Hey...honey, she's talking to some 'Josh' guy that lives in a different state, and is older than her, and I've never met him. Strange?".

Here's my question(I know, it's gonna be really bad): How'd she do it? :confused I mean, I've never heard of a 14-year-old cutting their wrists or throat, and I would assume getting a gun would be quite a challenge.

You've never heard of a 14 year old cutting? Good god, I thought that was like, the new trend or something.
Probably hung herself.. in the past two weeks I've had like 2 kids at my school do it.
