Apparently that's a common misunderstanding. My father-in-law tried to tell me the same thing. Although I called it natural selection. He said natural selection wasn't part of the theory of evolution. I didn't argue with him because he's my father-in-law. I'll just let him die ignorant. That's what he wants.

to disagree with evolution is the same as denying the existence of atoms, in scientific terms, and 100% comes from a misunderstanding of the theory.
