Exactly! Where did God come from? It can be asked just as easily as where did the grapefruit sized ball of matter that exploded and became the universe come from?

I agree both questions are equally valid. So the reality is that neither side has a definitive statement for the beginning but that is where we differ as I now say what comes next, an explosion that sets off a myriad of events that eventually lead to us or God creates man in his image.

Faith or Fact?

Why can't it be both? Not everyone takes the Bible literally in that the world and everything in it was created in six days (as in 24 hour days).

maybe the ball exploded, and god was created, and then he became intelligent, and then created us?

eh, who knows..

In my view, science completely wipes away the requirement for a God, so there can't be both. I know that there are a lot of scientists who say that God started the ball rolling & then sat back watching & guiding but I'm not buying it.

I must admit I cannot understand how you can pick & choose bits out of the Bible that you like & say I believe in these, but I don't believe in the other bits. Either the Bible is the word of God & therefore all of it is holy or it is not the word of God & therefore complete & utter crap.

I can't speak for everyone, but I believe in evolution and that doesn't keep me from believing in a higher power. I don't know why people are convinced that religion and evolution can't co-exist.

Simple answer is if there is such a thing as evolution, then there is no requirement for a God.

Allan

Although I lean more towards evolution than religion based on my personal beliefs, you and I both know that Science can't explain everything.

Why not? God is more than just a creator. But, in your defense, you're a non believer so nothing we say will convince you otherwise.
*Edit* That was for Allan.

Science can't explain supernatural happenings, science can't explain the beginnings of the universe, and science cannot disprove the existance of "God".

Which is why I have no problems with the belief in religions and "Gods", yet do not believe in them myself.

Well, I guess this is as good as any response I could have written for Allen. Not trying to gang up on you, I'm just saying that because one thing in the Bible might not be 100% correct, doesn't mean there is no God.

Actually I am quite prepared to accept that there is a God - all I need is some sort of proof, any sort of proof.

Science can't explain supernatural happenings, science can't explain the beginnings of the universe, and science cannot disprove the existance of "God".

Nothing can prove the existence of something if it does not exist. The interesting thing here is that there are claims that God does exist & yet no evidence.

I totally agree that there are many things that science cannot explain (& I would add "yet" to the end of that statement). Science has only been really looking at the Universe as we know it openly & truthfully for a couple of hundred years because before that you could be killed or imprsoned for asking the wrong religious questions.

There are many examples of things that were supernatural before they were explained & there are many more still to be explained. Two that have been explained in the last 20 years are Ball Lightning (Plasma) & Spontaneous Human Combustion.

Its important to note here, that the theory of evolution has absolutely nothing to do with the formation of the Universe, String Theory, The Big Bang, or a creation event. Instead it is meant to explain the changes seen in life long after it became viable. As noted earlier in this thread, you can have faith in a God, and Evolution at the same time if you decide to do so......No one is stopping you. It IS though, rather disingenuous to attempt a debunking of this theory, based on said faith.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I'm the same way, I want proof of a 'supernatural, all knowing, omnipotent' being... but it's not happening. I can prove to you that my car sits outside, I can prove to you that snow is on the ground, but I cannot prove to anyone (nor do I care...) that ANY sort of "God" exists.

The only thing that religious experts can offer up is words in a bible. Oh but I hate that reasoning. The bible was written by men 30+ years after Jesus' death, and over the course of 2000+ years it's been rewritten and skewed so that it'll fit person A's beliefs, while person B will skew and rewrite it for his beliefs, and so on.

Do I believe Jesus existed? Sure do, but I can't believe in what I think are fallacies in his 'miracles' and teachings.

A report from the Guardian Unlimited shows that Kansas has practically banned the teaching of Intelligent Design.

Creationists defeated in Kansas school vote on science teaching | Special reports | Guardian Unlimited

I particularly liked this sentence

The board also rewrote the definition of science, limiting it to the search for rational explanations of what occurs in the universe.

Still I doubt very much that it's over. They will repackage it & come back again or do what they did just recently & put all christians on the voting board.

Did you ever stop and think... WHY IN THE WORLD did something begin to evolve on a certain day, say Tuesday instead of Friday, over hundred zillion billion years ago? ...and how did man who is rational and has an intellect and an immortal soul evovle from a fish...and doesn't science teach us that the entropy of the universe is always increasing and evloution teaches us that order (in specific things only) is increasing??? you never open up your dryer and your towels are folded.
