Currently, your al Qaeda and Taliban have no drones, have no technology for building and controlling drones and are at such a distance, delivery is problematic on several levels.
Nukes on the other hand could be problematic with concepts like suitcase nukes. Pakistan has the nuclear materials, but undoubtedly, if terrorists took ownership and used them, I suspect Pakistan would wind up glowing from US retaliation.

The US has new found natural gas that makes it THE world leader in NG extractions and put to good use, ends our dependency on Middle East oil.
Our shale oil extraction is in a boom stage, also.
