Watched No country for old men.. started out a bit boring..then seemed like it had potential..only to end without any climax whatsoever.. making the whole time lost watching it seem completely pointless.
Also watched Stigmata which was a bit better.

Mostly what I remember is the film had an edge and one of the scariest bad guys I can remember on the big screen.

Last night we watched Training Day a police drama about corrupt undercover cops. I've seen it before, but wow, before he knows it the rookie is in over his head! :)

Yes his character was good ..though I wouldn't say the scariest.. and as I say the film had potential and I enjoyed watching it, that is until it ended with seemingly no conclusion.. I felt cheated out of a decent ending, making the whole film seem pointless.

No Country for Old men is a fantastic film, that really does justice to the book.

What a terrible tragedy it would have been if lesser film makers had got their wish and turned it into some Action movie about assassins, with love interests and big climaxes...

So I can't agree with anything you said there :surrender:)

I can't dispute that the film was good, up until a point. Then it becomes a complete disappointment.. it's like it was rushed to an end in any way possible so as it left me feeling cheated out of the time I spent watching it.

The reason there is no climactic ending, or it feels rushed, is very significant.

The Sheriff finds Javier Bardem, and walks away.

It's the anti-climatic climax. Every so often it's used in stories. I'm serious. It's more representative of real life than a nice tidy ending. :)

The Sheriff finds Javier Bardem, and walks away.

He does? For some reason I remember a car accident and the bad guy walking away. Why would the Sheriff just walk away?

And I also hate that kind of ending in stories.. I don't want it to be totally representitive of real life ..and anyway, how many psycho killers to you come across in real life come to think of it.. It is a film that went downhill and gave no explanations.. I want an ending goddammit, that's what I watch films for! lol

Yes there is car accident and the bad guy walks away and that is it.

Remember after Llewellyn is killed, in the hotel room. The Sheriff walks in to look around, and sees the shot out door lock, which he has already encountered back at Llewellyn's trailer. He see's the empty air conditioning unit, he see's the locked window.
You might remember Anton is there too, hiding behind a door, watching the Sheriff.
The sheriff knows he's in there with him, but decides instead to turn around and walk out.

As to why, well, that's entirely upto you to decide. Personally, I think he's sick and tired of it all. It is as natural to Anton to kill people as it was for Llewellyn to steal all that money, they're no worse, or even different, to any other human being.

I don't want to decide I want the makers of the film to decide :p
And what kind of sheriff would walk away from a killer like that and let him carry on? That is definitely not representitive of real life.lol

You are making big time assumptions. People don't always do the right thing or what is expected of them do they? :) For your sake I'll tell you. After his accident the bad guy in a dazed state steps in front of a bus. His karma finally catches up with him. :D

The film is a bit pretentious for my liking ..it's tried it's best to be clever but fails to deliver anything worth watching in the end.

Your basing real life of what you see in Hollywood, or once in a blue moon read about in the paper.

Bruce Willis might go busting into dark rooms looking for the deadly serial killers while across the border without any backup, but what good would it do for Tommy Lee Jones? Anton Chigurgh was hidden and armed and knew exactly where the Sheriff was, he had all the advantages.
This isn't a hollywood movie where the hero can summount seemingly impossible odds, the only thing in that room for the Sheriff was death.

The film isn't cynical in any way, it's just weary. Don't let the title pass you by.

I wouldn't call it pretentious. It's definatley a complex film, and it took me several viewings to grasp everything that was going on in it.

It's based off one of the greatest modern novels after all.

I don't expect action packed thrills...just something that gave point to the whole film.
And for the record i'm not a fan of Bruce Wiilis :p
