2007 is US Deadliest Year in Iraq

I agree.

What I fear Grace, is that this number will just keep building, and building. There really is no sight of leaving there soon. Imagine what this number will be in another year? Two years? 10 years? For what?

I don't want the number to grow either. But from my perspective I believe that radical Islamic terrorists want the West wiped off of the planet. They view us as a threat to their way of life and we view them as a threat to our way of life (you may not see it this way but many others, including me, do).

Freedom has never been without a cost unfortunately.

Shouldn't we have finished the job in Afghanistan? Our war is only breeding more hatred towards us and terrorists.

I respect your view on this....

But what does Iraq have to do with the above statement? Iraq was much, much, much more stable with Saddam at the helm. He is the one who kept the radical Islamic goof balls out of his country.

Yes I know... we went in because of WMD's
When we didn't find any, then it was to liberate the Iraqis
Then it was to secure the oil
Then it was to stop the insurgents
Then it was to kill Al-Qaeda (which was not there before we destabilized the country)
Now it's to get them over there before they come over her... (they must mean the Islamo fascists that we enabled)

6 years later and we are NO safer than before 9/11...
So tell me why the occupation of Iraq is a good thing.

My answer/perspective will just lead to arguments you've heard before and don't agree with.

I support the war on terrorism. I don't see it as a war 'just in Iraq'. Nor do I see the war as over if and when we pull troops out of Iraq. I've never viewed the war this way. Kwim?

But don't you see that YOU CANNOT wage war on such a vague "enemy" as terrorism? Terrorism is an idea, not a uniformed enemy standing in a straight line where you can identify them. They do not have one country, look, or same ideals. Tell me how we can possible wage and win a war against such a concept?

I don't think it is a large number for war, even one of choice, probably because I support the war. Maybe if I didn't support the war, I'd view it differently as you do.

850 Troops effects 850 mommas, 850 daddies, 850 brothers,850 sisters, 850 friends, 850 cousins, 850 uncles, 850 aunts, 850 grandmas, 850 grandpas, 850 nephews, 850 nieces....

My heart hurts for their families.:(

Racism is an idea as well. Should we not do things about it either?

IDEAS manifest themselves into ACTIONS. And when the idea of terrorism manifests itself into an action where terrorists fly planes into buildings full of civilians on purpose, military action must take place imo, and we must be precautionary and preemptive in protecting our home.

Racism is still around. Plus, religious fanaticism combined with an enemy in your own backyard combine to make a much different and stronger thing that common racism.

But really, how will you destroy ideals and ideas? Unless you brainwash them?

That's a great example Grace... because when you compare it to racism, you are right on the money. And we are winning the battle against racism by taking it on a case by case basis and reeducation. We didn't rush in with the military and detain entire souther communities. We arrested and tried individuals that were guilty of racist acts.

Right and we are doing the same with terrorists that are guilty of terrorist and racist (genocide) acts; just because we are meeting force with force (on a larger scale) doesn't change the fact that what I am saying is the same principle.

We fight ideals everyday - just on smaller scales.

Fighting an idea, especially ones that manifest themselves in unacceptable acts, are fought not only with war. There are many angles used to fight ideals, all of which need to be applied at the same time if possible in order to most effective.
