I've read through all of this and it has gotten wonderfully out of hand. Open discussion and trading of ideas and ideals FTW!!
This is terrific! Thank you all!!
There are SO MANY intelligent and well thought out points made in this thread that to try to selectively quote, post, and reply to them all at this point would take more time than I have at this particular moment. But I WILL address them.
Tegan, Breakfast, SRC et al: good points made and in some cases, VERY good points made. A few things jump out at me currently, so I would like to address them before I sign off for the rest of the day:
I am sorry for making absolute statements and then saying they're not allowed. That is an unfair way to present a point. I did make absolute statements here in a thread where I am speaking to a general condition. I ask for forgiveness for that. Let me make my point clear here and now: I am speaking in general terms, not absolutes. Please ignore if you can my absolute statements. They muddle the general point that I was trying to make in the beginning. To continue to focus on them as flawed logic really debases the argument in general and takes focus away from the general theory being laid out, and that ironically makes the general truth seem more solid. So please let it go - it was a insular mistake.. It's not germane to the general point.
This thread in its original intent has very little if anything to do with the morality of all of this. I said in the original post:
I'm not saying this is right, wrong, moral/immoral/ammoral, indifferent, good idea/bad idea - I'm just saying....
so let's continue to focus on that. This is an AMMORAL argument. To get to the generalized point at hand, there are several things that have to be left out, the most important of which is personal morality. Biases, experiences, feelings etc HAVE to be left out of the general argument because to introduce them, which I did not, muddles the case. Because we're all different and have different experiences, standards, biases, etc. Particularly to those who think they can infer what my morals and standards are based upon this thread, you give entirely too much credence to your power of perception to typed words on an anonymous internet forum. Be careful with what you think of me and how you think you know I would behave in a given situation based upon what you read in this thread. WAY too much of an overstatement. To those who know me....they know.
I have high morals and standards of behavior. Some of the things being bandied about in this are behavior I would never partake in. Once the morality card was played, the original argument became bastardized and away from its original intent.
I began this thread as a GENERAL, AMMORAL, IMPERSONAL discourse. And from a GENERAL, AMMORAL, IMPERSONAL perspective, I am simply stating that women would have an easier time finding company of the opposite sex than men.
Can we try to go from there?
