I was born at the end of the 1950's. My parents and grandparents had dealt with real shortages of products due to wars and the depression. I grew up recycling drink bottles. Milk man re-used milk bottles. We re-used paper bags from the stores. If something broke we had it repaired. Everyone drove around on re-capped tires to save money. Seems we were far less wasteful than today.
