This is not aimed at anyone in particular because I have seen this several times lately. Why request to be banned from a board? Why not simply logout and leave? I have never understood that.

People who feel that they are "addicted" to some message board would probably do this sort of thing. They don't think that they can stop going to that website so they ask to be banned. They couldn't be seeking attention, because they're not going to be able to read what anybody else has to say anyway.

I disagree. They can read, they just can't post under that name. What would stop them from re-registering under a new name and continuing with the drama?

Some sort of attempt at last minute drama, perhaps?

I agree with this. And this isn't the only dramatic gesture do when people leave a forum.

They can read the forum as long as the forum allows guests, which most do.

I see who left which raised the question.

That said, I could of swore we had this same topic here some time ago LOL

I agree with you Fred, if you don't want to participate, just don't participate. I do love it when people announce they are leaving, and better yet, when they show up some time later acting like they neve said anything.

As I've been looking around the forum today, I see a couple of folks have left and used the same option, Banned by user.

I have gotten so tired of BS on Forums (not this one) that I said I would leave. After a few months to cool down I've come back. That probably kept me from being banned. But to each there own.
I do wonder what the points are for? Do they have CA$H value?? :confused

You earn points by posting and repping. You use points to PM and edit posts.

You missed the boat. Some time ago, for every 200k of tokens, you could redeem them for a Walmart $100 gift card. It was a pretty good gig until some people abused the system.

Write it on the internet, and some people will believe it, no matter how outlandish:D

Or.....for some...maybe they never asked to be banned, but the powers that be jumped on a comment and used the "by users request" to avoid questions from other members?:ninja

Saves them being hassled, and they can use the "you need to ask the member why they requested

If that were the case, just find another IP address, log in, and then PM people and let them know what's going on.
