Whats so different as compared to fifty years ago?

The answer is simple.

The ability and ease which on can buy a battlefield designed rifle.

The fact is a battlefield rife was designed to kill as many people as possible as quickly as possible. In most states, one can buy a battlefield designed rifle easier than they can a handgun.

The more people you have in society, the greater chances you have the you're going to have someone with a screw loose. I don't think people were less screwed up 50 years ago than today, just that due the larger population you have now, you're going to get more nut jobs.

I love reading the press now on the 94 assault rifle ban. I lived through that ban, and let me tell you, the ban was a joke. The ONLY thing is did was make me save my money because I wasn't dumb enough to spend outrageous prices on mags and rifles with a collapsable stock and bayonet lug LOL (which I already had BTW and it MADE me some good money).

I'm pro gun, and some would call me a gun nut. I see no reason why people should have to "qualify" to own certain firearms. Then the question becomes how does one become qualified and who administers the procedure? All one has to do is look at the TSA to understand what happens when the government gets involved at the publics knee jerk reaction to wanting more protection.

I'd like to have more protection, but government involvement scares the living heck out of me. So...I'll just protect myself.

This guy HAD to fall through the cracks somewhere. He buys all this body armor along with helmet, gets dressed up for a "battle" and then gives himself up without a fight?

So, seriously, at what point do we blame the person who commits the crime??? :dunno

That's what I'm wondering....

About the TV/Movie/Video Game violence etc....Millions of Americans watch all that crap and turn out fine. I've watched movies/played video games and never decided to go out and do the things I saw on TV.

My understanding is the AK-47 jammed or he would have shot more.

As to cause it is my belief there are several factors which cause the type crime where others are murdered for sport.

First, I believe is the devaluation of the human life. If abortion and assisted suicide are every day occurences then that says those lives have no value.

Second, Is the "ME" society. Anything and everything only has value if it is about me. If you have something I want I should just take yours. We are no longer taught to earn what we want we are expecting it to be given to us.

Third, we are raising a generation with high self-esteem and the intelligence of a doorknob. Everyone's a winner no need to strive for more.

Honestly, I've never known any AK to jam, and thats even with the cheapest corrosive ammo I could find.

My understanding is that he used an AR-15. I give it a good chance it was a DI system and was using steel case ammo, although my understanding is the newer steel case ammo isn't lacquered anymore (shows how old I am).

I said AK because they referred to an AK on the original reports. Regardless it jamming saved lives.

Not arguing that the gun jamming saved lives, however, in part to the media's own ignorance on firearms, part of the issue is that people who normally write gun laws don't have a clue to what they're talking about, and the mis information the media provides only adds fuel to the fire IMO.

Heck, I've even seen a BDL referred to as an "assault rifle" by the media in the past.

Don't get me wrong, I don't care if you call it a magazine or clip, but at least get the gun right (per media outlets, not you).

I know. They made it sound like it was a full auto weapon which it was not. I have yet to see a definitive article that gave the weapon models used. The guy had ordered a lot of stuff in a short period of time for his crime.

I wish they still had public lynchings in cases like this.........

I see no reason why to make a killing a public spectacle.

Yeah, lets go back 100 years and instead of going to the movies, we can all take our families to see a man put to death?:confused

I wouldn't suggest anyone go who doesn't have the stomach for it. Myself, I wouldn't want to see a bullfight....as I would be rooting for the bull ;)

Well, apparently Colorado has the death penalty, and they'll consider whether or not to seek it in this case.

Death penalty or not, his future is bleak. He's going to either be executed or will spend the rest of his life in prison.

The article I read earlier said that they were looking at seeking the death penalty but wanted input from the victim's families first. I don't know...I think life w/o the possibility of parole is an even crueler fate, almost.

So if you have the stomach for a execution you should be invited? Would people have to pay admission? Would there be an age limit if a child is accompanied by an adult? Would they sell refreshments? Would people be allowed to cheer or boo? Anyone get dibs on the shoes?

Watching someone die is no fun.

I'm with you, I think spending the next 50+ years in prison would have to be crueler than lethal injection. I guarantee his attorney(s) are going to make a run at his mental state first. It's the most difficult plea to defend, but there has already been repeated comments made in our lovely media about his MINDSET.

Of course the fact that he viewed himself as the fucking joker doesn't help the sanity side of the case either :p

+1

What is the cost analysis for him to spend the rest of his life in prison compared to having him collect unemployment?

My money would be on someone who would want to make the history books as the one killing him in prision.
