we have a movie burner on the PCs and when we had Netflix an the wife had Blockbuster we used to rent all the time and burn dvds...now that the discs are made so that they can't be copied . We have a stack of dvds that we have wanted to watch but never do, because we don't know where to start....lol

There are still ways to do it, it's just more work... but it's illegal to burn them, so if you're okay with breaking the law, you might as well torrent and save the $ spent on renting :p

I saw something on FB today about how DirectTV is providing customers with the Encore channels free until the Viacom channels return... Supposedly it's on their FB page.

There's nothing great on most channels.

Do you regularly watch shows from the channels that are being lost?

Sometimes but most of the time I'm unaffected but just because they took them if it gets my goat :p

DirecTV and Dish are pretty terrible. Dish is in some hot water right now for dropping AMC(The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and Mad Men all have some pretty huge audiences that now don't get to watch their shows, and AMC doesn't like that and is retaliating with some nice marketing about dropping Dish), and their phone support sucks majorly. My friend sat on hold trying to reach a Dish representative for about 45 minutes earlier this week. With DirecTV dropping 25 channels(Dish is currently dropping channels as well), looks like they're both gonna lose a ton of money and subscribers. So glad I have Comcast. I have a ton of great channels, and I'm almost positive we haven't lost a single one yet.

We dropped DirecTv a year and 1/2 ago.
Their billing cycle is bad.
They don't post your payment sent right away.
Long story short I didn't get many channels as cable for the price and fed up with satellite disruptions every time it rains along with birds landing on the dish.

what is the matter with just basic cable? movie stations are overrated (the same movie shown umpteen times per day/week/month) and you can still get your cooking stations and local ones too
