No disagreement from me on control. Unfortunately that was not what happened there.

i heard on the radio that a fist fight broke out, followed by shootings....have yet to find any stories on the web that give more information, only that the suspect is still at large

My son says all he has heard is basically what is on the web. The young lady had spent part of the day with the shooter and then was at the party wearing very little. At the "party" she was getting attention from other guys and he took offense. No excuse to start shooting other people.

This the second triple murder in this area in the last week or so. Both cases the shooter probably should have been behind bars but were out to create more strife for law abiding individuals.

Seems from various news accounts that the guy with the gun got into an argument, but he wasn't the one who started swinging.

Turquorius Vines, 23, said he was at the party Saturday evening at the University Heights apartments with one of his friend, Pitts. He said he and his friend were approached by two other men who started arguing with them over a woman.
Vines said he punched one of the men, while Pitts hit both of the men over the head with a bottle. Either one or both of the two men then started shooting, he said. He said Pitts was shot and killed, while two others also were hit by gunfire. Vines said he had never met the men he was arguing with. “It’s like I lost a lung,” Vines said of losing his friend. “I don’t know how I’m going to survive this.”

The way I'm reading this, it was Vines and his buddy that started the violence. The other guys just happened to be armed.

What's that old saying? Don't bring a beer bottle to a gun fight?

Probably if he shot the person who struck him it might be different but that is not the case 6 people were shot and 3 fatally.

Perhaps, but since I wasn't there, from what I've read, I can see it going down just like it happened.

From the news, it seems both guys who didn't have the guns started the punching and hitting with bottles of some sort. Have a guy take out a sidearm and start shooting until the mags empty at a crowded party, could see 3 going down although a couple may or may not of been the intended target.

Guys/guy should never of went looking for a woman (or whatever they were doing at the party) with guns on their person in the first place, but by the same token, perhaps the guys who started the hitting could of handled it differently which would of prevented the guy from pulling out the gun?

Don't get me wrong, the guy should be arrested for murder (and convicted), I'm just saying I could at least understand why might of pulled the gun but his mistake was he put himself there to begin with.

General rule, when one carries, one NEVER starts or continues the escalation of aggression, but something tells me the odds of this guy having this gun legally might be 50/50 to begin with. Never mind, after reading this guys past history, no way he was carrying it legally.

Without looking at the laws and regulations of gun laws in Alabama, chances are this guy is a prime example of why it's not the gun laws on the books that need to be changed, but the enforcement of those laws. I'm guessing the jails are to crowded to throw someone in for carrying a gun illegally.

As more information has filtered out it seems the shooter was at the party to talk with a woman who had filed a paternity suit against him for her 1 year old child. He has had a similar suit filed by another woman with which he has a 4 year old and has ended up in court over non-payment of child support. He has been in court on criminal charges twice since 2008 when he turned 18. My guess is his juvenile record is extensive. One of the previous criminal court cases involved illegal possession of a firearm among other charges. As I read about him he seems to be a loose cannon. I wonder why some charges were not filed against the braggert who threw the first punch?

I saw the story the other day and thought about you and your son, Fred. Always a shame when people do their talking w/ a weapon when it's not justified. :(
