Yea, I was wondering the same thing. Hence why she shouldn't be expected to raise her older brother and her sister.

So then why is the child 'responsible' for the truancy? Either you are old enough to care for yourself, or your parents are accountable for your actions, surely?

I was wondering about why the parents weren't the ones being charged. I know they moved away, but that doesn't mean they are no longer responsible for their child.
I, also, thought that if you are charged with something so petty when under 18 that it falls off your record by the time you are 18? I could be wrong and maybe it's determined by exactly what you are charged.
Another thing, I never said I agreed with the punishment, just that the judge stuck to his guns and truancy laws. He can't make special exceptions for one person and expect to be able to follow through with others.

This is what a judge does, thus the title of JUDGE.

He gets to weight all the facts of a case and make a judgement as to the punishment if any.

You have to argue ANY time I respond to your posts huh John? I could agree with you, and you would still argue my point.

Ummmmm....this is a discussion forum isn't it Darrell? It's called having a discussion and offering up opinions. Are members supposed to just ignore the comments of others or agree with everything the admins say? Shall we join hands and sing kumbaya?

I don't see how he was self centered, I entirely doubt he had anything to gain from his decision.

The judge, when asked by a reporter if he could have shown this girl mercy stated "yes, I could have, but I did not want to appear soft".

Sounds self centered and more concerned with himself than with the well-being of a child who has been forced by circumstances to fend for herself.

Whatever though, you can keep on trucking through this world blaming the government or government officials for EVERYTHING, don't forget your tinfoil hat, though.

That was a low blow Darrell - I sure never expected you, of all people, to come across with a statement like that. That's some shit I'd expect from TM or some other shallow thinker.

Questioning the moronic asshattery and poor decisions of a government official is not blaming the government for everything. OTOH, what does it say about a person who bends over and takes whatever the government is dishing out?

Now that quote is perfect for a sig :cool:usa:

Haha, nope, just pointing out that no matter what I say, you always argue my point. I don't care that you do, I was just pointing it out. :)

I apologize if I insulted you, that comment was meant as tongue in cheek.

I wasn't arguing your point - I was arguing against your apparent automatic support of the judge in dropping the hammer on a 17 year old honor student working two jobs. ;)

What did you expect when you enter a thread and offer a dissentinhg opinion?

And you ain't special - I'll argue with anybody. :fing27 :)

You wouldn't know logic if it walked up and bit you in the ass TM. Now run along and find a Rush Limbaugh rerun to listen to. :)
The problem is you refuse to accept logic John when it goes against your position/and as a defense use either the race card or turn it into a liberal conservative pissing contest.
Just an observation here John...but I doubt if you will find anyone that disagrees.

Nice thread topic by the way...IMO it should go to the debate area
