one of my bestfriends hung himself in '10 so yeah it's sad and alot of thoughts ran through my head. i miss him and wish i couldve said some stuff before he did it but that's the reality of suicide... once it's done, it's over.

i wrote that same friend a suicide note in '08 and i found out he still had it when they cleaned out his house.

My 21 year old grand nephew hung himself the week of July 4th 2007. Nothing but questions and "what if's" remain.

You are so right - once it's done - it is over.

The thing is Joe, you never know whats going through someones head, or what their thoughts were for that split second after the trigger was pulled. He could have asked for forgiveness in the last split second of his life. I do not know how God works, but i know certain things are direct and certain things arent direct in my beliefs. Suicide is one of those up in the air, because there is no direct text on it biblically. I dont have all the answers, nor does anyone really. I cant prove to you heaven exists, but I have faith its there.

I am Catholic. I do not condemn others for not thinking like me. If everyone thought like me, then posting here just wouldent be interesting. On most issues that we debate, its the whole site vs Me. Which is alright. I am very tolerant of people with other faiths. With homosexuals also, though i do not accept them, I tolerate them.

Like you, I believe a heaven a exists, I'm just not certain if we're wearing wings and a halo on a cloud or we re live our most fondest memories for eternity. Does that mean I'm going to hell? I honestly know.

Your a better man than myself. When I was your age, I had absolutely no religious belief system whatsoever. My father was raised a devout catholic, but he was pretty much kicked out of the church because he married a woman of another religious faith, which honestly help formed some of my opinions on Catholicism (apparently marrying outside your structured religious faith was big no no in early 60's and my parents didn't confirm to the norm of their day when it came to religion).

I think the biggest difference between you and I is our personal opinion on homosexuality, and I could be wrong (if I am apologies), but I think part of your reasoning for not accepting homosexuality is your belief that it goes against your God's "views".

The reasoning behind my line of questioning on suicide is to point out that no one on this earth can claim to know EXACTLY what God's views are, and I realize that some will claim that the Bible is the ONLY path. Me being me however, and my lack of faith in men, I can't help but think that sometime, during those dark years when the religious "dictatorship" was writing those works of the Bible, some men decided to include their own views. "Christians" also had a strange way of converting people back in those dark years. Does that mean I'm going to hell for not believing EVERY word of the Bible? I don't know.

For the record, one of the most thought provoking sermons I've heard from in a while was the fact that NO man can judge another mans action and have the right to say if they are going to heaven OR hell, for that is for God alone to decide.

My understanding of the Christian view on death was: You could be the worst person on earth but if you accept Jesus you go to heaven. Sins are irrelevant because everyone sins, and all sin is sin in the eyes of God.

I could be misguided though.....

Sometimes I can't help but wonder that line of thinking is like along the lines of clicking your heals and repeating "there's no place like home" three times.

One could argue that a good man will knowingly take evil actions and knowingly ask for forgiveness directly after his evil actions take place assuming God will then forgive him. Hey, I kind of like that. I can go out and do what I please, hurt as many people as I want and THEN ask for forgiveness. Kind of like a free pass.

If you're a devote Catholic, you'd also realize that not all sins are equal.

I have said a couple times, i disliked homosexuality long before i became christian. I do not use the bible or religeon to encourage my dislike of homosexuals. I understand my disliking of gay people makes myself look bigoted, but i was "born this way" LMAO.

I also agree, we dont know how God works. Anythings possible. No one knows God's MO.

Theres 2 schools of thoughts the protestants believe sin is sin, as we believe in mortal greater and venial lesser sins. If you try not to sin though, this wouldent really matter.

I happen to agree with you, but I sincerely think the Catholic church would disagree with your thoughts;)

If I haven't said it, sorry about your buddy and his father.

Everyone must realize that when it comes to losing someone, everybody grieves differently. What works for you may not necessarily work for others and vice-versa.

I'm sorry to anyone who's lost a person in their lives due to suicide.
