Nobody ever knows WHY it happens. That's the hardest part about dealing w/ deaths by suicide. You can speculate until the end of time and find reasons, but truth is, nobody ever knows what actually makes someone snap and take their own life.

:(

Tash nailed it! Knowing why someone died is part of the closure process which is one of the reasons autopsies are done. Gives finality to the death. Suicide cheats the survivors out of that element of the closure process.

I'm sorry to hear of this. Suicide hits damned close to home for me.

life is the property of God and a gift to the world, and to destroy that life is to wrongly assert dominion over what is God's and is a tragic loss of hope.

So does that mean in your mind, your friend is going to hell?

Sincerely curious.

You know, i used to think people who commit suicide goto hell. I took it at face value when i was told that, then I realized it doesnt say that anywhere in the bible. I guess its just one of those things we are going to have to wait and find out on our own.

I'll interject this: For those who are uncomfortably close to a suicide, conversations about the intricacies of why the person did that, theological beliefs surrounding the act, etc. can get to being rather difficult to talk about.

Just my $0.02 worth.

He not only took his own life, he took his fathers as well.

EDIT: I assume he took his fathers life if he shot him and then shot himself

Yeah, but at the end of the day no one knows how God works or how the process is when we die. I am confident though, that the very many good deeds and contributions he gave to others will not be discarded due to the last 2 actions of his life. To be honest, i really dont know what i am talking about. I am just keeping an open mind, because you never know.

So your Christian belief system is so that if a person does good deeds and takes a complete innocent life and commits suicide, there is still a chance that person can get into heaven?

Sincere question, and I might of missed it, but what practicing religious faith are you?

Ultimately, what I'm getting at, since you yourself said "no one knows how God works or how the process is when we die", ultimately no matter what you believe, you can't be certain if that is the way God works or not.

Hopefully you can see where I'm going as far as some of your stated religious beliefs in other threads.

Personally, I always have questions when it comes to the God as I've come to know and for that reason alone, I can't condemn or condone what other people do, only myself. From reading some of your other posts, you condemn others for not thinking like you. There are many in the religious community who would condemn your friends actions and think he will rot in hell. I for one don't know.

Sorry for your loss. I went through something similar years ago when my Uncle committed suicide. It is certainly not an easy thing to deal with.

The thing is Joe, you never know whats going through someones head, or what their thoughts were for that split second after the trigger was pulled. He could have asked for forgiveness in the last split second of his life. I do not know how God works, but i know certain things are direct and certain things arent direct in my beliefs. Suicide is one of those up in the air, because there is no direct text on it biblically. I dont have all the answers, nor does anyone really. I cant prove to you heaven exists, but I have faith its there.

I am Catholic. I do not condemn others for not thinking like me. If everyone thought like me, then posting here just wouldent be interesting. On most issues that we debate, its the whole site vs Me. Which is alright. I am very tolerant of people with other faiths. With homosexuals also, though i do not accept them, I tolerate them.

one of my bestfriends hung himself in '10 so yeah it's sad and alot of thoughts ran through my head. i miss him and wish i couldve said some stuff before he did it but that's the reality of suicide... once it's done, it's over.

i wrote that same friend a suicide note in '08 and i found out he still had it when they cleaned out his house.

My understanding of the Christian view on death was: You could be the worst person on earth but if you accept Jesus you go to heaven. Sins are irrelevant because everyone sins, and all sin is sin in the eyes of God.

I could be misguided though.....
