Did you tell her the text was inappropriate?

If not, you should. My condolences!

An aunt passed away about 6 wks ago. My mom (her sister) called me, but the older brother's daughter didn't find out until she checked Facebook.

That's something nobody should have to find out through facebook, the family was pretty pissed at my aunt over this because my uncle was in the process of calling people up and letting them know and specifically asked that no one mention it on facebook and she did anyways.

Can these people not have the sense to wait and deliver the news via telephone??? Fuck!!

No offense, DKWRTW, sounds like your aunt was a bit of a drama queen (with a touch of attention whore) - I mean on Facebook???? WTF???

I can be very blunt and to the point, but it sounds like some "interesting" family dynamics are at play here, where being "to the point" may not accomplish anything.

I would highly doubt this would be the first time Darrell would of had to say something.

Wow...just wow. *smh* Even though you weren't close, he was still your grandpa and I'm sorry for your loss, Darrell. And your stepmom...well...obviously she needs some lessons in class.

When it comes to setting boundaries, never relent in their articulation.

Hell my step brother and sister didn't even bother phoning me when my dad died. I had to find out from my cousin. So I sympathize with you. I mean I live in the same town as my step brother and sister and my cousin lives across the state and called me at work three days later. That f*cked up too.

I had a bad relationship with my dad but come on, pick up the phone when someone dies for god sakes. At least your mom notified you at all.

Without a doubt she is an attention whore, she has mentioned my dead grandmother in her every facebook status since she died, and this was MONTHS ago.

Not knowing Darrell, I can't speak for him, but he strikes me as a pretty straight forward sensible kind of guy.

I would be willing to put money on the fact that this isn't the first time something like this has happened within his family and I'm guessing that (whatever the situation would of been at the time) was addressed by Darrell, to no avail. When it comes to some family you can't choose, IMO your better off letting them out of of your life than to keep having to go through the drama.

As I've gotten older, through "family emergencies" I've come to know who the idiots are in my family, and I now stay away from them because no matter what I say or do, it won't matter:D

There are certainly some benefits when it comes to living apart from family... sometimes I feel the entire Atlantic Ocean isn't far enough from some of the douche-canoes in my family. And I'm not even going to get into the in-laws!!! :24:

That's harsh like. Regardless on how close you were to someone, I wouldnt appreciate a text. Then again I am a bitch who takes pleasure in saying to someone over the phone "and?" when they tell me something I don't wanna hear or don't care about.

I'm really sorry to hear that.
While my father was working away in China my great-uncle died and my stepmother told us AFTER the funeral, even though she knew the day after he died. Not only did we not like the fact that she did that but, it made my sisters and I look bad for not even attending the funeral or sending any messages to relatives. Only my grandmother (great-uncles sister) was the one that went from our side of the family. So I can sympathise with you on that angle.
