i took the dogs to crackley woods, now i've mentioned here before about the old boy with the vicious westie, and how bruno reacts to aggressive dogs and how dopey tyson is

well as usual i walked through the middle of the wood, more interesting for me and the dogs, well i often stop and chill on this fallen tree for 10 minutes.well this old boy and his westie came creeping up from behind me,i managed to get bruno on his lead but tyson wanted to play and he was there before i could react, well what happened next i can forgive his dog but not him..as usual his dog went ballistic and tyson tried to back off.....but he couldn't because the old boy had what can only be described as an iron grip on tysons ear,he was trying to come to me but couldn't, i hit the roof

my reaction was full of expletives which i wont use here but i told him to let go and he'll come to me...his reasoning was that tysons big so he kept hold

i'm totally furious because when he finally let go tyson did exactly what i said he'd do

i know my dogs and how they react to things:mad

I have little dogs, (Papillions) if someone dared touch my dog (unless he was biting at someone) I would pull a Tyson on him!

over here most cities have leash laws

some people get really pissed if they come upon a dog that is off the leash

like you I know my dog. Mine would never hurt a fly. Nor does it get aggressive with other dogs. Still some people in the park will be asses if I let her loose and they see her.

my brother had two Jack Russells

The one was nasty as hell

The other is way too skiterish

I think it depends on the dogs master if you go with a JR

I think they take way too much work and need a lot of exercise.

Allen is right
You must be boss of a jack but if you are and if you know the dog you will never need leash and will never have a more loyal dog, they are great

That's really frustrating.. you can always get a feel for the temprement of a dog when it approaches, if his dog was the aggressive one and you told him your dog was fine, then that's really bad he did that. He's lucky that didn't aggrevate the dog, too. I've got no problem people letting their dog approach me when I'm on my own, but I once hit the roof when some dumb bitch let her two dogs bolt towards me and my 14 week old puppy.

Puppy was terrified and I did NOT like the way the dogs approached us. They seem fussy on their laws here and dogs have to be on their leash except for certain areas and this was not one of them, it was just on the main road outside the marina. I went nuts and was so fucking pissed at her. What's more annoying is that she still does the exact same thing, just lets her dogs run wild around here, never on their leash. They run out infront of the cars all the time too. If they come near me again I'm going to do something about it. Until then I'll just wait for them to get hit by a passing car.

had a chuwawah pierce my nose once
thronged it like it was a man
had a shepard tear my shoe off while I was riding by on a bike
before I could tell my parents someone ran it over
other than that I snarl and growel and turn into the monster I really am if any dog thinks he is going to be alpha over me
it works
I have read and studied alot about animals when I was young
My dad was a wildlife freak

So something happened today while taking our puppy out for a walk that I thought I would add to this thread, see what you guys think.

We're walking along our street, a main busy road which takes us down to a walking path that goes along side the river, we're one side of the street and there's a guy coming towards us the other side with two dogs. So as soon as I see him and his dogs I'm trying to work out if the dogs are on their leash or not (bare in mind it's against the law here to not have them on a leash) just to be cautious as I'm with the puppy and their big, big dogs. The one dog spots our puppy Fletcher and just starts bolting towards us and runs across the road straight at us. My fiance Wayne jumps in front of me with the puppy and puts his arms out to stop him, he keeps coming and I pick the puppy up and and the dog goes for him so Wayne pushes him away.

After that the dog is just circling us still trying to get to the puppy while the owner is just standing at the other side of the road calling him. Then the guy starts going "he's okay man don't fucking touch him" and Wayne's telling him that it's not okay and he should be controlled and on a leash. By this point Wayne is further out on the road trying to lead the dog away from the puppy while the owner is still on the other side and he's shouting at the dog but more at us at this point saying thing like "he's just a fucking one year old man he's okay" and even "touch him again and I'll come over there" at that point I chirp in and say "well do you want to just come and get your dog?" then he called him again and the dog finally goes to him.

Wayne comes back to me and as this guy's walking away he goes "fucking maniac" and I guess that was the tipping point for me and I shout over to him that the dog should be on a leash and he said "this dogs on a leash and I just forgot the other ones leash, he was okay". I reply "no he's not okay when he's out of control and going for little dogs". There was more said but all happened so fast.

So anyway usually we wouldn't make a big deal out of it but this guy was such a jerk Wayne went straight onto the phone and rang the police. They were good about it but was too late in getting there before he left in the car (and very maturely flicked us the finger while driving past).

What you guys think?

i think, seeing how you asked, that people need to learn how to read dogs body language...mostly their tails. I also think if a dog does not remain by its masters side while walking it should be on a lesh, however, in the case where Ian was out minding his own business this clause is not needed.

It is NOT the dogs people need to concern themselves about but rather th stupid humans that own them. Dogs pick up on your anxiety and your defensiveness, so no matter what command a human utters, unless they( the human is calm) the dog will react on the feelings it picks up from the human.

Now in Turtles incident, what concerns me there, is the dog lacked obedience in 'coming' to its owner when called, however the prior defensiveness and anxiety felt and shown by turtles party only escalated and made the situation worse, when in all likely hood the puppy that approached them was only greeting them and their dog.

I find people are VERY ignorant towards larger breed dogs and puppies when in fact it is the smaller breeds one must be more cautious with.

Dogs are animals. You can't trust any animal. I don't care how well you think you know your dog, (all those late nights you spent playing backgammon and discussing the metaphor of Plato's cave) they're still just a wild animal and could do anything. Always be vigilant against your own, and others, pets.
