I tip unless the service is totally horrendous. At which time I usually leave a snide comment on the receipt with exact change.
I never treat servers poorly though, no matter how bad the service. I like my food without spit.![]()
it would be nice if the servers. waitresses, bartenders etc got a decent wage but they don't. seeing how things work at a restaurant and how much each person "pays" the restaurant makes you wonder how they make any money at all! but on the other hand you could make a ton off tips if it is done properly.I tip about 15% at the restaurant and give a tip when I get my hair cut.
I'm going to get flack for this, but I personally think tipping is ridiculous for the most part. It's become an obligation that you're pressured to do rather than a discretionary courtesy based on the service. I've worked lots of minimum wage jobs, did them to the best of my ability and went above and beyond for that nice customer, never expecting a tip. Yet, if you go to a restaurant and tip too low you're an asshole.
Restaurants should just be forced to pay their employees at least minimum wage so they don't have to rely so much on tips. Then the tips become something "a little extra" instead of the main source of income from the job.
