When the iPad 2 began selling out in stores, we balked at the outrageous prices people were paying resellers on eBay. Dropping over $1,000 on a device that you could purchase for $500 if you just bit down and wait a few weeks was lunacy. Turns out we hadn't seen true lunacy until today. A 17-year-old kid from the Anhui province in China reportedly hawked his kidney for 22,000 yuan (roughly $3,400) so he could have enough money to buy an iPad 2.
The teenager told the Shanghai times that he really "wanted to buy an iPad but could not afford it." So the little iAddict got in contact with a broker who helped him arrange the procedure at the Chenzhou hospital without his parents being none the wiser. Despite doing the operation on the sly, the boy's parents got wind of what was going on when he returned home feeling ill. They called the cops, but the broker was long gone by then, according to the report. Even worse, the officials at Chenzhou hospital had no record of the operation because the wing it was performed in was contracted to a Fujian businessman.
We hope it doesn't get worse than this.
