... and it's one of the toughest battles I've ever fought. I won't give up thanks in part to a little blue pill that's working wonders. Along with it's help I have the desire to quit. They stink, are extremely expensive and not very good for the health. I've been on the pills for 13 days and last Sunday was my target to pack 'em in. I admit I have cheated but just once per day which is freaking amazing after 44 years. Now you might be inclined to axe why I decided to have one per day and to that I have to answer with a little story.

Mrs.Guyzerr hasn't made the decision to quit as of yet and on Monday evening she came inside after a smoke. I said " honey I hope I don't turn into one of " those " ex-smoker but I gotta tell you that you really stink. " :24: She laughed and said I would probably end up being one of " those ". Anywhoo... I lit the cig on each day to reinforce to myself that they taste as bad as they smell and I'm not kidding when I say they do. Tomorrow is another target day and that's when I don't even light up the one.

My taste buds haven't changed yet but my sniffer works better than it did. I smell things now that I couldn't before and I can't wait until food tastes good again. :thumbup

Oh... and with the money I'll save I just might buy s'more camera gear. :thumbup

I don't have any physical craving for the bloody things. It's the habits that I developed after all these years that's giving me some grief. eg: On Monday morning ( 1st day ) I jumped in my car @ 5:30am to go to work. I put the key in, start it, buckle my belt and reach into my shirt pocket. It was empty. :thumbup Then at 9am coffee break I sit in my car and eat a muffin while I listen to the news. Down the hatch with the muffin and reach for a smoke. Nothing in my pocket. :thumbup Same thing at lunch and so on. It's amazing what the brain does automatically and that's what I'm working on. As of yesterdays breaks I no longer reached for that smoke. My 15 minute coffee breaks and 1/2 hr lunch are too long. It's incredible how much time is wasted on smoking. I never realized that before.

I was considering going to Reifel tomorrow to get an update on my Sandhills but it's supposed to rain. I'll probably be couped up in the house all bloody weekend which will play hell with the no smoking bit.... but I can do it... damit.

Right about now I'd be going outside for a smoke but I don't have the least bit of interest. I'm getting damn fast at Mahjong instead. :24:

I never smoked but I saw my Mom basically waste her life on cigarettes. Perhaps it was not them that took her life away but had she been stronger she would have survived the damn viruses that affected her I have no doubt.. That however is in the past so time to move on..

My Dad quite at the age of 55.. He had smoke Player Plain since the age of 12.. I guess you can relate in some ways.. He was much like you, had his little routine and always said he could quit when he wanted to.. Well damn if he was right.. :24: That day Cold Turkey he quit.. Fast Forward 30 years later and he still looks for his pack of smokes at times.. Just a habit I guess.. I asked him if he ever had the craving to start again and he said the first 6 months yes but after that no.. I don't think he realizes he sometimes reaches for the pack in his pocket :eek

Well Sunday is supposed to be a nice day.. Also they just opened a new Broadway Camera in the mall next to me, but I still think they are expensive compared to the store I deal with.. Perhaps I might get that 100 to 400 Lens we talked about and I can use it at Riefel we never went together yet.. Looks interesting..

I have a pretty strange stance on this kind of stuff with addictions

My mother smoked a lot but quit in her 60s' and lived into her 90's

I think a lot has to do with genes because I have seen many people give up addictions to booze or smokes in their 50's and die within a couple years

If that makes no sense then me tomorrow :D

The boys dad quit with Champix just over a year ago now, and hasnt looked back.

my mum was a packet a day smoker, and "quit" using Nicorette gum...she chewed that crap for 6 years, when you're only supposed to for 6 months.

and, as the Prick said...she was one of those that didnt get sick until she gave up. She died of emphysema and complications.

Good for you Guyz.:thumbup

I started smoking when I was 13 and have been a minimum 1 pack per day. There were stretches that lasted years where I smoked 3 packs a day. :eek If I end up reaching for a pack that isn't there I'm ok with it.

Before you make the plunge ask yourself if you're going to use it enough to justify the expense. It does have it's limitations for the type of photography you currently do. Another thing about it is it likes lots & lots of sunlight which as you know we seem to be short of lately. I will admit I love mine and it hasn't been off my 7D since the day I bought the body.

That's a definite no !
