picking on people

See, you got it all wrong. Calling someone an asshole isn't even close to bullying. It's just disrespectful and mean.

Maybe that's the problem, people don't understand what bullying is. :dunno

Good point.

Retro, you wouldn't know a good idea if it pulled up it's skirts, sat on your face and wiggled.

Now, be a good boy and piss off. Adults are talking. Nobody likes you and you smell funny.

Better, Tim?

I'm new to THIS board, but I can tell you that picking on people and bullying will always occur on internet message boards/forums. it happens because it's so "easy" for people to be hardasses online and hide behind a screen.

Can't win for losing... just saying.

How about we just have the members tell us mods what we can and can't post from now on? You know... since we're only allowed to contribute and say or do whatever it is you guys want us to do. Should we have a separate set of rules to make you happy? This is getting ridiculous.

The mod in question didn't break any rules folks. And quite frankly when you kick the hornets nest you can certainly expect to be stung, by members AND mods. Just the way it goes, on this board and in real life. You don't want to be 'picked on' then don't fucking post in the debate section. If you can't stand to have your opinions or things you share questioned than don't post them on the open forum. It's just that simple.

No one said that this mod broke any rules. But she deffinately did join in on this "bullying." Sure post away like a normal poster. I could care less. BUT being a moderator was a volunteer job. You volunteered to not be a "normal poster." You wanted to be a representative of the forum and all the rules and regulations that come with it. You chose that. I agree you can post like a normal poster, but expect to be called out when you break the rules. Just like a normal poster would. So when we all go on trial for being bullies, be sure you take a look at your team mates.

The forum where I am a mod - the mods are only allowed to remove spam. We don't warn/infract/ban anyone. Everyone puts on their big-girl panties and deals with the backlash that may result from what they posted. Yes, there are ewars, and tempers flare, and names are called, and characters are attacked. And a few days down the line everyone kisses and makes up and gets on with getting on.

I find the infractions/warnings/temp bans/bans that happen here pretty odd... it's like some folks need to have a nanny/mommy/whatever holding their hands to fight their battles. It's just not how it's done on the other board.

I do understand that V and the staff want the place to be harmonious, and based on that they need to control these issues, but it feels so over the top at times.

:clap

One person going toe to toe with another is not bullying....especially if said poster "asked for/started it" with that particular poster
Its when others jump in to "make sure the boot is felt"...that it turns into bullying.

Especially when they hadnt even been involved in the original argument...or had barely posted for ages before that..THATS when I get annoyed. I dont care whether the "bullied" party deserves it or not...its being nasty for the sake of it...imo...and its something we've been told not to do.

It's such a delicate balance. In contrast to the forum you described, I was a member for a long time on a forum that practically had rules about blowing your nose. No swearing. No personal insults of any kind. You could get a warning if someone complained about your response being 'unkind'. Worst of all, they were very strict about getting offtopic. I quoted someone and made a joke about what they'd said, nothing insulting or even off-colour, and it got deleted and I got a private warning for it. Anything that wasn't direct advice to the OP was deemed unnecessary.

I like it here because it sits in the middle. I don't want a nanny state of moderators watching your every move so they can leap on you, but I also don't want to feel like it's a freakin circus. I managed to join literally as the rules changed so I don't know what it was like before exactly, but I like the fact that only people who are actually involved in a disagreement can complain about each other, and the idea that unless someone does complain, people are allowed to hash it out.

That is dumb. Some people need to be banned.
