Thats a shame. Boomer has a good point. Yes, retarded is generally an offensive word but if you can read beyond that, you can see a valid (might not agree with it) point being made and then respond to that rather than being hung up on a word. Hope that makes sense.:)

It does Peter, believe me, I don't like getting all hung up on words either.....I do see your point.

That being said, I can't help it, I find the very use of the word offensive, and I think it becomes even more so when it is used to describe an individual in a way that is demeaning. I'm obviously not the only one who feels this way, just look around.

Oh, I dont blame you, I see it more as lazy than offensive though. It's like when kids keep calling everything gay, that Playstation game is gay, those pair of trainers are gay ect ect. It's just a lazy way of trying and failing to insult someone. Wish there was more understanding of people with mental illness.:(

i need to question the accuracy of a 48 IQ. anything less than 70 usually means the intelligence of a subnormal child. there's a break point somewhere and i don't remember what it is where the person is helpless as an infant. i always thought it was 70 but apparently not. i know when i was a kid, nobody ever got reported below 90 when the test scores came in.

somebody with that little intelligence with an erection evokes some very bizarre images. i can't imagine the guy being able to get along without a full time caretaker anyway, so i really don't see anything wrong with letting him get it on with his chums every now and then. probably be good for all of them -- the therapists, too. maybe we could get some films of it up on you tube and everybody could benefit from it. (that was only half sarcastic, so no alert)

I wish I could completely change the meaning of the word, that way I'd never have to hear it again.You may poke fun at me for this one Peter, but I used to volunteer at a home for men and women with Intellectual disabilities. I found them to be some of the warmest human beings I've ever met....and I've made some life long friendships among them. Unfortunately that was a few years back, when my daughter became a bit more independant my job became more demanding leaving me little time for much else.
I can honestly say that Ive never heard of the word 'gay' used in that way....lol..I'm so outta the loop.

No, I completely understand. I myself have aspergers syndrome, a form of autism. I dont see it as a disability, just a difference. I have a lovely wife and many good friends. It dosen't have to hold you back in life, you just need people to understand that you can at times be a bit different.:thumbup

this explains a lot for me. asperger's is the only diagnosis i'll stipulate to anymore but i won't take any of their drugs. i only use nicotine and tobacco to help stabilize my mood and deal appropriately with aggressive peckerheads who are trying to piss me off so they can get their jollies off the adrenalin rush they get.

please don't use me to blow off your excess energy unless you can be relevant and respectful. i do not have the luxury of the kinds of things you indulge in or a wife to rein me in if i get too pissed off at somebody. i don't know about you, but i'm in the computer as potentially homicidal -- approach with caution. you can see the change in the cops attitude every time after they run me.

please don't fuck with me the way you have been. i'm about a half inch from blowing my cork and composing a swan song that people with a serious vested interest in this site are not going to be happy about. veronica has given me permission to post the pm exchanges we have been having.
you have been acting like a big baby toward me and they seem to think you shouldn't even be warned about it.

The good thing about knowing what I've got is that I can understand more fully when its the aspergers kicking in and when it isn't. In your case it isn't and I have the backing of "normal" people here. You have been acting like a prick. Please don't try and patronise me. Thankyou.

i wasn't insulted at all. it was an insane rant. it makes me pity you and hope you get better help for your asperger's than you are getting now. you may not be able to tell from my composition, but i'm really a very soft spoken gentle person when i'm not on stage.

i don't like arguments unless they are closely moderated. you get much too personal and too far off topic for my taste. that doesn't make me hate you -- it just makes me want to avoid mixing it up with you in a thread that is trying to stay focused.

i love you very much -- i'm hardwired to be that way. it's what has kept my ancestors alive and a cohesive family of people for all these thousands of years, that love.

now that i see what is behind what i've been seeing from you since well before this started, i can't be at all angry and i've been put through the system enough times to know better than to get insulted by somebody nutting up that happens to throw down on me.

again, i can only hope that you get a better net around yourself than you seem to have.

i eat healthy foods, only use weed and tobacco on a regular basis, am very cautious about the stronger drugs i use and don't use them very often. i do not engage assholes in verbal combat, especially not in the real world. people get hurt that way and i get more jail time than i'm willing to do for the sake of somebody else's machismo.

i do not get scooped up by the pigs more than once or twice a year for getting too happy or too pissed off and never get ordered to do anything. the doctors don't even try to get me to take their drugs anymore when they have me. they just cut me loose as soon as i'm seen by a treating shrink.

the only thing terribly off in my life is my personal hygiene and that's better than it's been in years now that i have the safety and comfort of my own nest. if i had somebody neat living with me, i'd be plenty neat. i never go out in public without at least showering and putting on clean clothes. my kitchen gets pretty groty and things are strewn around.

above all, i go out of my way to be nice to everybody and tolerant of their follies, foibles, fancies and furies. you didn't even know that i've been leery of you straight along until you read this. aspie's are supposed to be respectful to each other, aren't they?
