erm, did any of you actually read the link?

this isn't at all funny. dude lives in state housing and is having sex with another disabled man. they are forbidding it. they do the same thing in the states to psychiatric inmates, forbidding all contact past quick hugs.

hardly a healthy environment. humans are social creatures and intimate contact is an important contributor to our overall mental health.

I have read the link Tommy, and while I agree with you on that level, I can't help but be concerned with the whole thing. You and I both know that lack of knowledge leads to trouble....and isn't this mans behavior a little like a life long game of Russian Roulette? I dont' agree with the way this is being handled of course, who would......but forgive me for laughing and taking it so lightly, it's just that, sometimes that's all we can do.

i don't disagree at all with your premise though it is a little bit of a leap from what was given in the story. it looked like he was in some sort of relationship with one guy and it doesn't say specifically what kind of relations they were having. it's easy to imagine the worst with such sketchy information.

look at what michael jackson went through because of that kind of leaping to conclusions. that wasn't child molestation. dude was developmentally arrested because of childhood abuse. those kids weren't sex objects -- he wanted them for playmates.

there was also a case in texas where a retarded teen got an inordinately long jail term for 'having sex' with a 6 year old. turns out that this sex was no different from what two six year olds might do.

Will he be able to understand the court order considering his IQ ? Doubtful and even though he's been restricted in approaching the other male who's to say he won't find someone else? The chances are slim but still possible.

I don't know, it sounds shocking that they can ban someone from having sex but they do say in the article, he's got no real perception of what he's doing beyond 'it feels nice' and therefore isn't capable of keeping himself safe. Presumably if his partner suggested something dangerous to him - people can seriously hurt themselves during sex after all! - he wouldn't have the capacity to judge what was going to do him harm or not, he'd just go along with it. Not to mention if he started having multiple partners, you couldn't get him to understand what an STD is.

And since you can hardly chaperone someone during sex.....

Well, he is retarded, he's subhuman, he's not just a stupid man. So it makes sense banning him from having sex as much as it would make sense to ban a 6 year old from having sex. It's to protect him most of all.
