The real reason? To emphasize the structure of the head/face.

Here's what I'm talking about:

Notice how there's no hair on the muzzle and around the eyes? Yeah...it's shaved off with a razor. It's done to all the show horses.

We had another foal last night. I'm just a slacker and haven't posted pictures. It's another filly. :thumbup





This is our next mare due to foal.


I'm not looking forward to her. She's cranky and when she has a newborn foal she gets downright nasty. She'll try to kill you if you go in her stall. She was due yesterday but she always goes a bit late so she'll probably foal next week sometime. So yeah, if I all of a sudden disappear from here you'll know that Bree foaled and then killed me. :ninja

Apparently the day crew is having problems with her biting and striking when they try to handle the foal. To be honest, I have been pleasantly surprised at the mare as she seems to tolerate me when I have to do things with her. Perhaps she hates me the least. (I won't say she likes me because Bree likes no one. )

True story: I once asked why the mare's barn name is Bree. Her registered name is Simply Magic and Bree is nowhere near that. I was told that after she was aquired and her less than charming personality was revealed they started calling her Sabrina (as in the witch) which was later shortened to Bree.

Annie is annoying as hell. :ninja That's just how orphans are. One of our mares is now her nanny. She doesn't have enough milk to sustain Annie, though, so we still have to pail feed her. At least she has a "mom" to show her how to be a horse.
