Over A Million Innocent People Perished In A War Based On A Lie! Congressman Dennis K

Re: Over A Million Innocent People Perished In A War Based On A Lie! Congressman Denn

I had originally typed a post flaming you for being disengenuous, but on second thought, I guess I'd be fascinated too, if I had greater and unfettered access to a foreign society than I do to my own.

The nailed-down city-state of Singapore is so radically different from the freedom and diversity of the third largest nation in the world, it's no wonder you don't understand how prominent citizens can have such vehement disagreements with their government's decisions and actions, yet not only be allowed to live, but actually voluntarily continue to serve in that very same government.

I'm not sure you'll ever really understand us, but I've decided to try & help you in your effort.

It's about time Congress quit trying to abdicate it's constitutional powers to the executive branch...which by the way is unconstitutional.

Honestly I take all the remarks etc in my stride. I was never offended at all. Well I don't claim to be a 'know all'. But I do make some effort to explore. We are different in many aspects but our system suits as fine. However just like in US not everyone here will agree to certain policies but the basic systems here tick like clockwork.

Wow... No one's called DK a kook yet. I'm impressed... Dennis is one of the few who has not sold his soul completely... At least he has the balls to tell it like it is. Unlike the other 90+% of the sold-out mess.

There has never been any factual basis to the exaggerated claims of how many people perished in Iraq. So often opponents the US and or war in general love to throw these huge numbers around implying that our soldiers were killing everything in sight - civilians, women, children. The fact is that far more people were killed in Iraqi-on-Iraqi violence than by military activity. Anyone who claims to know or present a true casualty count is either A) lying or B) accepting biased data as truth.

It doesn't matter if the majority of Iraqis died by our hands or by Iraqi on Iraqi violence since we were the cause of it. We are the ones that unleashed all hell in Iraq that lead to the death of hundreds of thousands at least all in the sake of "liberating" them. No matter how you slice it up, it was a travesty for millions of people.

And doesn't it bother anyone that Cheney was having an energy meeting 6 months before 9/11 using a map of Iraq showing how the oil fields were to be split up between the oil companies? If you doubt for one second that we didn't invade Iraq for their oil, you are delusional. And for that many people to die for our hunger of oil is a sin beyond sins...

No doubt. Gimme a Congress full of Kiciniches (no matter how it's spelled ) Ron Pauls and even Joe Bidens. At least we know where they're coming from.

I love this quote. You have in one sentence summed up the entirety of the liberal anti-war movement in this country.

It doesn't matter that they did it to themselves. It's still Americas fault!! :willy_nilly:

I guess Tim forgot the gassing of the Kurds and some other little sunday school adventures before we went there eh

Yes, Iraq was a Utopia of bliss and happiness where no one perished and life was cherished by all.

I also find it intriguing that the estimates of how many people have been "killed" in Iraq are based on crude census data - and the idea that more people SHOULD be there than are actually counted. At the same time, unreleated census data in neighboring countries are showing huge population swells over the same time period. Maybe, just MAYBE, people have LEFT Iraq because they actually have the freedom to do so now? Maybe, just MAYBE they aren't dead at all.

It's sad to realize just how many politicians w/integrity we have... I think I have enough digits on my body to count them all....

We have some serious voting out to do...... I doubt it will happen. Then again, perhaps the events of the last couple of years have actually woken more people up to that fact? hehehehehehehehehehehe..... I still doubt it. We get the politicians we deserve

Ever notice the double standards in our society? Us standing by and watching the genocide in Darfur is morally reprehensible. The same people that would support our intervening in Darfur are the same ones who say doing something about the genocide in Iraq was morally reprehensible.

I'm of the opinion that genocide is always bad. :dunno

He does go a bit over the top at times. I mean, I'm one of his constituents. I've watched the guy since I was in high school, and at times I think he gets carried away, but he does seem to have a genuine concern for the people who elect him to office, which is refreshing. He (or probably more accurately, his office) helped fix a military pay issue I was having. After almost a year of trying to fix it myself through the proper channels, once his office got involved it was fixed in about two weeks. I'm a fan of his needless to say haha.

Yup. I'm trying to convince my beloved that we need to buy a few acres out in the country ... just in case.

That really is a pathetic cuscus belli for invading Iraq, considering that the Regan administration fostered close relations with the Iraqi’s at the time of those atrocities, who saw them as a counterbalance to Iranian influence in the Middle East.

Most of the gassing (Simply saying ‘gassing’ certainly doesn’t even begin to provide an accurate picture of the horrendous injustices committed by Saddam’s regime against the Kurds during this period, I might add.) attacks occurred during the late 1980’s, which generally encompass the Al-Anfal campaign, and the Halabja massacre. However, the United States, overlooked these events, and throughout the conflict, provided Iraq with economic, military and diplomatic support.

The Riegle report, found that, during the period of 1985-1989, the United States had provided biological agents to Iraq, that: Could have been cultured or grown in large volume in an Iraqi biological warfare program”. It’s quite ironic for someone like George Bush to say that Saddam is a danger because he “Gassed his own people”, when in fact, the United States was assisting Saddam expand his chemical weapons capabilities.

During the Halabja massacre where the Iraqi government killed 3,000 Kurds in a single gas attack, the US State department, to obscure responsibility, asserted that Iran was also culpable in the attack, despite knowing that Iranian invovlement was a fallacy.

Finally, in 1988, the US congress introduced the Prevention of Genocide of 1988, which sought to punish Iraq for its attacks on the Kurds, speaking of the bill, Jesse Helms said: “This legislation will help demonstrate to the Iraqi regime just how seriously our country views its campaign against the Kurds. In addition, it will help assure that US tax dollars do not subsidize the Iraqis.”

Reagan threatened to veto the bill, and the administration heavily lobbied for its defeat. Needless to say, the bill did not pass.

So, being one of the fallback justifications for invading Iraq, the argument is pretty weak, unless it symbolizes US foreign policy as being “You can genocide your people and we’ll completely ignore it, however, 20 years down the track, we might use it as a reason to attack you”. So, we might expect to be invading Sudan in 2024.
