That pot is illegal is what I'm objecting to. It's prudish, I know. If it were legal, no problem.

No, I don't since I don't have a problem with the reasonable consumption of alcohol either.
When someone is using an illegal substance, there is always the possibility of police involvement. Also there is the matter of teaching kids it's ok to break the law.

When it was the law that you got put in prison for being gay, did you think that was right too? Just because it was the law? It wasn't very long ago.
Homosexuality laws are a different matter. That would not be practiced in front of children.
BTW I strongly disagree with anti-homosexual laws, just to be clear. I want the government out of the bedroom except in matters of child abuse or other dangerous practices.
But what about smoking cannabis, not in front of children? Would you have a problem with that? Seems to me that it would be good to legalise it so you could add these restrictions and not cause the problem which may have occured on Saturday.

Additionally, I think it should be legalized. It's no worse than alcohol and acutally is better in some respects because tokers are NOT given to violence.

Well, as a parent, I would have no problem with you smoking in an outdoor area where my kids are playing. As long as you aren't blowing smoke in their faces, I see no harm.

As far as smoking pot goes, because it's illegal, I wouldn't do it in front of kids. I don't think there's a double standard there simply due to the legallity of it. One is basically exposing a child to an illegal activity, sending the message that it's okay to break the law.
Tobacco, on the other hand, when outdoors - someone needs to explain to me how a child witnessing an adult engaged in a legal activity is somehow causing them harm.

I never smoked around kids when i did, even though I was one lol (14), I also wouldn't smoke around others if they didn't... i always asked if it was okay.

And if they want to hold the little ones, they must wash their hands and change their shirt after the cig/mj. Second hand smoke is the worst, and their chances of asthma and getting bronchitis like Mommy are high.

That dosen't hold up to me. I have no problem breaking a law in front of a kid if I think that law is wrong, if it sends the message that it's ok to break the law if its wrong, good!

I do not allow smoking in my house or cars. I have rarely been around pot in the last 20+ years. I know we were at one party when my kids were little and we were not aware of the pot until it was a huge cloud. We left soon afterward.

They are stuck in this mentality that we can fight a war on drugs. Gen. McCaffrey was on the news this morning. I he was a "Drug Czar". Of course he defended the status quo. He thinks kids would get it more easily at the 7/11. Sure.
Legalize it. Tax it and conrol distribution as we do alcohol. We do not have the resources to continue to fight this bogus war.
When prohibition was repealed, the criminal element was decimated. While people can grow pot on their own, it would never the less, kill the foreign pot market. Think of the stimulus to the economy as farms are converted and the associated industry emerges to process and manufacture joints.
I don't smoke it, it makes me ill. But I hate the fact we waste our resources trying to prevent something that is as well established as the pot market. Also foolishness of locking up people for possession.
No one should be smoking inside around other people, child or adult for health issues. Your example is different but I thought I'd mention it. I view Mary Jane as no worse than drinking, however as it is illegal where I come from, I would frown upon it at my party. I would prefer that users would do it away from kids.
I don't agree with drug laws either, but I still think it sends the wrong message. You're essentially promoting anarchy.
If I wanted to go the route of fighting the power against unjust laws, then I would promote some civic responsibility. Contacting government officials regarding the law, starting or becoming involved in a grassroots movement or something.
The message that it's okay to break the law simply because you don't agree with it is the wrong message IMHO.
