Re: Zombie Apocolypse

Yes, but do you know how long it takes to reload an actual crossbow? If that is your only weapon, you better hope that you are never being chased by more than 1 or 2 slow moving brain eaters.

While a crossbow may sound like a good long range weapon, I would think it would really only be useful for actual hunting of animals for meat, since it can be used fairly silently.

Of course, if you were surrounded by zillions of zombies then a crossbow wouldn't be the weapon of choice, I'm thinking more recreational sport for the sluggish zombies. The silence aspect is another win for this weapon.

Well, I still prefer the 2 foot sharpened machete the most. Lightweight. Multi-uses. Silent. Requires little skill. no reload time.

Sure, it is short range, but considering the slow reload rate of a crossbow, Ill take the machete over the crossbow any day. And I just so happen to have one laying around, as I use one to hack up my hedges and shrubs when they get unruly.

I think guns are a waste in zombieland. Not only do they rely on a limited resource for power (ammo), but they are loud as fuck and will bring every zombie within hearing distance down on you.

And I still vote for my large sailboat plan. Find a small island for growing plants/trees, raising some cattle. Use boat to travel to mainland when supplies of some sort need to be scavenged.

Well, Zombies can walk underwater. So, your island better be well protected by sharks with laser beams on their heads. :tooth

Yes but they won't think to walk underwater to my island if they don't know I'm there, duh. Also, the odds that a rotting corpse makes it way through the ocean, over miles with thousands of pounds of pressure pushing down on it? Unlikely.

I know its still finite, but this is why I plan on making my anti-zombie fortress a Wal-Mart:

<sorry for the large image sizes, can someone point me to the FAQ that shows me how to get to see the img tags so I can add the size parameters>

Re: Zombie Apocolypse

I don't think so. Checking a scuba website just showed me that one would have to dive pretty deep before the bones in ones body would crush. Something like 22 miles deep. That is pretty deep.

And as a registered advanced scuba diver myself, I can say that even humans can dive pretty deep. It's not the pressure that hurts a human necessarily, but the pressure exerted on the air one is breathing. And more complex mixes can greatly increase a humans dive limits.

And since zombies are dead, they are therefore not breathing. So, they don't have to worry about that. I would say that if the world was over run by the walking dead, eventually they would start wandering on the ocean depths as well. And therefor hiding out on an island would just be prolonging the inevitable, but in no way is it 'safe' and the best defenses are still man made instruments and weapons of war.

Go to an army base and acquire a tank would be better than anything IMO.
