.... playing. I came upon this family of 5 North American River Otters at a small park that I drive by on my Sunday coffee drives looking for eagles. It's a place I've been going to for the last 6 years as well as many hours spent there as a youngster when the river was clean enough to swim in. This is the first time I've ever seen any otters there and they were a treat to watch. There didn't seem to be any shortage of fish for them to eat and once they had their fill they spent a little time grooming each other and then poof... they were gone.

Fantastic! I've always wanted to see a wild otter but never have yet. The're not quite as rare as they used to be in Britain but still very ellusive. They live in the river and lakes near me but the closest I've got is to hear them one night.

I've seen the ones that hang out in the ocean before but never the fresh water ones. That location I saw them at is tidal waters even though it's a good 30 miles from the ocean as a crow flies. It's a small tributary of the Fraser River which is affected by the tides for quite a few miles upstream. Kinda neat and a first for me in any event.

Great shots.:thumbup
They are cute little buggers.

We have a family of them on our swamp. They use my pontoon boat a a hangout.
They have destroyed the upholstery and crapped all over it. Little bastards.

Thanks Poop.

I can imagine a family of 'em can make quite the mess.

This is in response to ... well lets just say she knows who.

*** and the answer is.... I do my best not to scare the wildlife away when I'm out and about with my camera. In this particular instance they were on the other side of the river and even though they kept an eye on me they weren't very concerned. The Herons are an entirely different matter and will spook at the slightest movement so I gotta be real careful and sneak up on 'em. ***
