you know it's time to clean the kitchen when..

I know it's time to run the dishwasher no matter how empty it is when I'm out of coffee cups. :( We only have 8 and there's two of us (three if Adrianne comes over) drinking out them on a regular basis, and if I want hot cocoa after coffee, I need a fresh mug. I'd say we cycle through them at least twice a week. And those are the slow weeks.

No thanks. LOL! I have no problem with dishes. When I'm done eating I rinse them and put them in the dishwasher till we have a full load. Then wash them. We have that many dishes and are thinking about buying some more silverware.

actually, i've been without a kitchen for a couple of years and only just moved into this apartment last week. the kitchen's nowhere near as bad as that and i have a dishwasher.

it's just going to take a little getting used to. i don't have that much stuff. there's just me, but i've been leaving cookware on the range and dishes in the sink.

one of my best friends was much worse before he got married. in his apartment, the kitchen was worse than what i described. he had all of that and there would be all sorts of different funny colored molds all over everything.

I just can't see letting your dishes pile up til you get fruit flies be at all appealing to me. I would hate to have to clean through the bugs. That just would be gross. Maybe I'm picky but dishes is the 1 thing I have always been good about.
one more time. i don't have fruit flies and i still have some clean dishes and pots and pans.

that was what you would call artistic license.

what made me think of this was the egg shells and pan from last night's omelet still sitting on the range.

I didn't say you had fruit flies I meant anyone who would let it build up that bad. Personally I never have and just think that's gross. I would do anything to avoid that from happening. See I hate bugs!

Usually the only stuff that builds up in the kitchen is stuff that can't go in the dishwasher like plastic containers, frying pans etc. It doesn't get too bad though. I only hate it when one of my family members doesn't rinse something out in one of the containers, PUTS THE LID BACK ON, then we find it later with bloody mould in it, that twit.

I'm pretty OCD about my kitchen but after my separation from my ex a year and a half ago I let things get real bad. Instead of cleaning the dishes I was just throwing them out.

Thankfully now my kitchen is completely cleaned...I do the same as DA with the dishes. Can't let them pile up and then have to clean through milky left over macaroni's or old soggy veggies.

i don't know what kind of climate you live in but in some places, if you leave food out, you'll have fruit flies in just the few hours it takes for the eggs to hatch and the maggots to morph to flies. it's been 30 years since i graduated college but if i'm not mistaken, that's something like 8 or 12 hours.

i also don't know what kind of slackers and other assorted lower caste people you mingle with, but the odors and bugs can get pretty amazing. i walked into a house where the fleas were so thick that they looked just like swarms of gnats close to the ground.

ever been in a cat lady's apartment? the only thing i've ever smelled more ghastly than that is a decomposing human body. almost makes a dead skunk in the middle of the road smell pleasant.

wino shit runs a close second to cat lady's places.

so really a pile of dirty dishes with a few fruit flies buzzing around is nothing so awful.

When my lazy ass'd brother was single he used to turn the plates over and eat off the back. :24:
and he was probably the same kind of hypocrital chauvinist pig as my buddy was and gave his wife hell if there was so much as a crumb on the counter when he walked into the kitchen any time the kitchen was idle, yeah?

The key to my post was " when my brother was single. " :D
