You Can't Be Sneaky Enough...

If I'm sitting on my deck I can see a small creek that runs through our yard. It's about 100 yards away. Yesterday I noticed this Great Blue Heron up to it's ankles doing some frog or fish hunting. I grabbed my camera and tried to be as quiet as a churchmouse. I ducked behind trees to get close enough but even that wasn't enough. As soon as he saw or heard me he took off and landed about 100' further away. This was the best I could get. Lousy light and all.

Off he goes...

To make matters worse about 1/2 hour ago while I was sitting on the deck he flew right by me. No further than 50'. Do you think I had my camera there... Noooooooooooooo

I've seen some great picture ideas when my camera isn't on me...... I'm sure it happens to everyone.

We have bears in the area and I told my wife a few minutes ago that if one came meandering by he would stop and say.. " go get your camera.. I'll wait for 'ya. " Then he would walk into the bush as I was fetching said camera and when I came out he would be laughing at me from the bush. Pricks........

I know. I've been chasing them for years and only have a dozen or so of what I would classify as good pics. They have to be one of the most skitterish birds I have ever tried to get. Smart little buggers they are. I have yet to get one coming at me. I always get their arse end.

Trust me. I would be the first to hear a bear talk but wouldn't be lucky enough to have a recorder with me. Bastard bears...

Personally..... I like to stay at least 5 miles away from bears. If I were to see one...... I'd be too busy running to take a picture! :willy_nilly:

I've had that happen as well but it's rare. I really want to get one flying either towards me or right along side of me. It might take a few years but I'll get it.
