"Settings" is grayed out as the virtual machine is saved{hibernated} rather than shut down.
If you are familiar with virtual box you can figure out this software in short order..its essentially the same thing..but optimized for xp.
I have run Ubuntu in the past it ran pretty crappy...however xp runs very well with vmlite

I don't think I'll be needing vmlite from what I'm reading in reviews. VirtualBox does all I need at this time.

I've noticed some Linux distros just don't play well in VirtualBox.
Tried the latest Ubuntu and simply didn't like it in the first 30 seconds

Give Mint 16 Cinnamon a try. Works well for me in VirtualBox. However, at this time, it's just curiosity for me. I don't have a use for it.
Mint 16 MATE is for older computers with fewer resources.

And Mint is environmentally friendly......it's very green

I've even considered installing Mint as the main OS and running Win2k in VirtualBox in the distant future, if MS continues along the lines of the Win8/Metro format. Both run light on resources so any current respectable hardware would probably be pretty much future proof in that regard.
Or run Mint in the future on hardware that Win2k ( or XP ) wouldn't necessarily recognize in anything but a VM.
Now that's a good way to beat MS at their EOL game.

I've done a few more searches on vmlite.
It, plus xpmode, only function on Win7 Pro and up. Activation appears to occur automatically.
So activation becomes an issue for Win7 Home Premium when installing any legal version of an XP virtual machine. This is why I went with Win2k on my Win7 Home. I already owned a retail version I could move around without any hassle.

The way I use virtual machines, I don't see any advantage to vmlite.

But it is always handy to have alternatives available.

Have you tried running a win9x virtual machine in vmlite?

I think I had 98 on either vmare v box or vmlite for a short spell..I have tried so much kinda hard to remember..no internet is a deal breaker..so I exoect I dumped it as I couldn't get online with it.either that or wouldn't go full screen.

I had tried mint in the past. ..and was fairly impressed as it was decent right out of the gate.
Ubuntu studio also works good right of the gate.
Both good alternatives to xp.
I like 7 so much though I use it as my main os.

I've seen several disappointing conflicts with older software and some bizarre installs.
Websters NWD wouldn't instal on Win7 64, but would on Win7 32 and functions properly there.
SuperGoo, a really old app, wouldn't instal from the instal CD, but C&P ing it's program folder from my old XP computer into Win7 64 resulted in a call for the instal CD which finished the installation and SuperGoo actually works more smoothly than under XP...go figure.

Acrobat 8 Pro and Office 2000 together have a conflict on my Win7s. So I only have Office installed.
And Delorme Topo 3 won't run 3D on a Win7 platform.


BTW....did you see where Newegg has been selling Dragon 12 home for 0$ after rebate plus $1.99 shipping?
I bought a second copy for another machine several months ago for $10 after rebate and thought it couldn't go any lower.
That's excellent software that originally retails for $100.

I haven't messed with dragon naturally speaking for quite some time now...but at 2 bucks many copies should sell...sounds like a giveaway just to gain exposure then have sales later?....most people never have heard of it or are aware of what it does.

I expect that there will be alot of infected xp machines in the near future as patches will no longer be developed by MS...I expect the ones writing the scripts will be very busy taking advantage of the holes.
In my opinion MS is making a bad move by ending support on an OS which still has such a large amount of users as MS will be getting bad publicity when the holes are exploited...IMO they are wanting to force people to buy a new PC..which they would be doing soon anyway due to hardware failures as the machines age.

XP really was an excellent OS, not many can top it.

I went from using XP at work to Windows 8 and it feels like a massive step down.

Really? I can't even stand xp no more because of how use to I am with windows 8.

2000 was a solid OS as well ...xp is essentialy 2000 with more tools

I havnt spent much time on 8 at all...I expect my dislike for it is because I haven't learned to properly operate it.
