I honestly don't think this is really "racism." I mean it might be a little... but I think it's more because there are SO MANY defendants in this case. In a small town like that, everyone is going to be related to all the defendants and sympathize with them, and therefore blame the one, single victim who is "causing" (in there eyes) all the upheaval in the town.
