I can't help it but I just saw a bigger version of the flier being used and i can't help but feel irritated. The flier doesn't even flow well.

Their actual wording is better, I think if you'd had their wording with your poster (and perhaps the top part of yours, the 'afterparty' bit a little bigger) then you would have got it.

Maybe they like it cos of the picture? :dunno I don't think the entire thing is better than yours but I guess they had a reason.

I went with what I was emailed. I didn't get the picture of her at the turntables and I had no idea there was a Mezzanine.

Maybe they looked the picture of her up or something, if she's a well-known DJ then there's probably some out there.

i dont think it was the picture, yours looks better
im thinking it was the wording

a flier is meant to have important pinpointed details not full sentences

There were some serious design flaws in both of them, but Dana's was better in my estimation. A client generally doesn't provide you with specific wording, only details of what they want to see in the product. As far as the extra information goes, you could contacted him to see if there was anything additional that he wanted to see.

Regardless though... it's your right to be irritated that you put work into something that wasn't ultimately used, but that's life. You got paid for your work, and that's what you should focus on. Put it in your portfolio if you're proud of it, and use it to market yourself to other clients. But publicly commenting on the quality of someone else's work is incredibly unprofessional. It's fine to be irritated, but you took it a step too far and may have cost yourself future business.

Perhaps they went back and asked for more pictures ?

The QR Code should have been done by you.. They are quite easy to make with many generators online for free..

My other comment...

You should have contacted the client directly and just asked him why the other flyer was chosen. Perhaps there was something in the design that they liked a lot, and you could use that concept in the future. Or maybe there was something in your design that they didn't like, and you can make note of it for the future. Just think of it as a learning experience.

Perhaps he worked more closely with the other person. No offense but I like the flyer he used better than yours. Maybe it is the white background and maybe the quality of the picture. Just my opinion he went with one that is more eye catching. Still bad business to question your customers choices.
