I saw a movie once where a car went off a cliff and exploded when it landed on the ground. And man did the explosion look so fake!
If they didn't have the money to show a more realistic explosion, then they shouldn't have shown it in the first place. They could've made it so you just heard it and not seen it, or whatever.
