Worst is kinda past tense
"Worst thing I have ever seen"
Whereas worse is future
"It's only going to get worse"

It's kinda like bigger and biggest ( think of it like big = bad, bigger = worse and biggest = worst)...
Worst to me is finite, iow, nothing could be as bad as that one thing (If something is the biggest there is, nothing can be bigger).
Worse is more variable, so, although something is bad, it could be 'badder' - worse.
