World Peace

Or maybe they do it because they want to feel good about themselves?;)

or maybe they do it for both, for the right reasons. do unto others as you would want done to yourself. love yourself, i believe, is up there too. ofcourse we do things because they make us feel good about ourselves, but it also feels good to put yourself in their body, and feel how it would be to be helped when there may not be help around, joy that only the reciepient can experience, no matter what the giver does, he cannot atchieve this level of happiness

Actually, Ice, social psychologists came to the conclusion that it actually doesn't matter why people help, it only matters that they help. I couldn't agree more with them.

dont get me wrong, doing good, no matter what is behind it, will always produce good results, in some way. its a matter of conscience though when it comes to the giver of the help. doing good is an act of love, a great bible quote is "Love comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith". It is what stands behind the deed that really matters. we are all aware of people doing things without a clear heart, but for mixed reasons, not totally pure through and through.
I can see how getting into the habit of doing good deeds is a good thing, but some people loose heart in habit, and just do it without thought or true care. Again, not to say any form of good deed is bad, for the reciepiant will appreciate regardless.

im just saying that, if i knew mens hearts at all times, i'd bow a little lower to the person who held the door for me because they knew i truely needed it, or that it would really bring me a sense of happiness....and not because they have just been doing it for so long that they just do it and not really care about who or what it effects.

I very much agree with what you said here. Also, I see a difference in the reasons people give to help. For example, during a long time, helping people was an act of charity, doing to the others what you would like done to you, and doing it in a protective manner, like a loving parent takes care of a kid who can't take care of himself. Now it has changed a bit, and including myself, there are people who help because they believe all human beings have same rights, and they deserve the same treatment. Like this, you help people not from a paternal standpoint, but seeing them as equal, and showing them how to help themselves.

i didnt quote this to reference, but to get your attention, i dont think anyone else is looking at this at this moment, but did you see this? i posted it on a seperate thread in general discussion. talk about creating a wonderful sense of peace. this is kind of off the subject (kind of big time), but it has made me feel peacful all day....YouTube - Paul Potts singing Opera

WOW, that man has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard.. was even touchy...

"Nobody shall sleep!... Nobody shall sleep! But my secret is hidden within me, my name no one shall know... No!...No!... On your mouth I will tell it when the light shines. Vanish, o night! Set, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!" This is the translation of what he is singing. He cut up ""Nessun dorma" a little for the song, but it fits perfectly.

Ancient Europeans wrote about Ages of Man:

Ages of Man - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

There are also many other references to various
types of world ages or Ages of Man in Hopi
(worlds), Mayan (suns) and other cultures of
antiquity. Giorgio de Santillana, the former
professsor of the history of science, mentions
approximately thirty ancient cultures that
believed in the concept of a series of ages and
the rise and fall of history, with alternating
Dark and Golden Ages.

More information is available in the Hindu concept of Yugas:

Satya Yuga - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The present age is called Kali Yuga, the age of darkness.
Evil will be at its highest during this age.

However, there is hope. One Indian visioner wrote that
crime rate in the world will reduce to 40% of its present
level in about two decades from now:

"From 2010, winds of spiritualism will blow across the
entire world, awakening more and more people in its wake. Where limits
of (modern) science end, spiritualism begins. .... Along with scientific
progress, intellectuals will start recognizing the importance of
spiritualism. .... From 2050, a new era will begin...."
