Thanks Meirionnydd, was wondering if i cna do that. Only thing is, if going to a computer specialist - rather than a multi store that sells laptops, PC's etc, they could be costly do you think?

Hmm, I am not too sure about this. When I had my old computer built back in 2005, My family used an independant computer specialist store. For a almost top of the line system, it cost around $900. In contrast to the computer retailer Dell for example, which aren't as powerful and cost ALOT more.

However, that was a desktop computer. Where parts can be seperately brought and put in with relative ease. Laptops are different in that regard. I would advise to shop around and visit both computer specialists and normal retailers and decide what is best for you. Computer specialist stores would be able to provide superior customer service and be better equipied to deal with your OS problem.

So, what I need to know is this...is there any way that if I buy a new laptop, I can have it with XP as is my PC I use now, rather than Vista at all?

You can find some that will come with XP. But soon you will only be able to buy a laptop with Windows Vista, since Microsoft will stop supporting XP, and inturn retailers wont be able to sell unsupported software.

Three months ago, I bought a HP Pavilion running Vista Home Premium 64 bit and I LOVE it. It has two hard drives as well as an external giving me about 1200 gig space and it's fast (4 GB RAM). I haven't had a bit of trouble with it (yet).

I don't have Vista just XP. But I've heard it sucks from many people.

People said XP sucked for years. And compared to 2000 it did, but as 2000 faded from the memory XP came into it's own.

There is nothing wrong with Vista I have found, it's not perfect no. But then XP is?

All OS's are a work in progress, anyone who knows anything about programming will tell you that the giant complexity behind an OS means that no amount of alpha or beta testing can prepare it for public release.

I personally use windows XP but I'd be all too happy to use Vista, despite what people say I've seen it run great as long as you have decent specs.

Also one thing I have been meaning to ask people...

Has anyone else noticed a noticable increase in sound quality in Vista?

Yeah Vista even on the admin profile you don't get full permission, you have to change the file settings of your hard drives to full permission

Windows Vista Tip: Disable annoying "Need your permission to continue-" prompts

Windows Vista's User Account Control security "feature" - which I like to call Sir Obnoxious Naggy McNag - is bound to drive any power user batty within an hour of downloading, installing and configuring your favorite programs. If you hate Vista for asking you every single time you try to do something if you're sure you want to, then disable User Account Control. The How-To Geek's got the details:
Open up Control Panel, and type in user account into the search box. You'll see the link for "Turn User Account Control (UAC) on or off". Click it. Uncheck the box, and reboot your computer. You should be done with obnoxious prompts!

Now, Microsoft highly recommends that you do not do this. To make their point, after you ignore them and do it anyway, a scary little red X shield icon plants itself in your taskbar, visually screaming at you about the security risk. After the jump, find out how to rid yourself of that sucker.
In Control Panel, go to the Security Center. On the left hand side, click the "Change the way Security Center alerts me" and choose "Don't notify me and don't display the icon (not recommended)" as shown.

Of course, you probably shouldn't do this to Mom and Dad's PC, but this is a must-change for anyone who doesn't need Windows holding their hand at every crosswalk. — Gina Trapani

i think Microsoft should be ashamed.

they had a really awesome OS, called windows 2000, now i know it had its issues, but, it was built really well and lots of things could come from it, like XP did, and XP was a very good all round OS. now they have ditched support for one of the best OS of all time! and they bring out Vista??? WOW! WELL DONT MICROSOFT!!!!

i have ran vista for a while, its a load of crap. BUT, once they get a few more bugs fixed and stuff, and people catch up to the computer tech world i think its gonna be an awesome OS! but until then ewwwies for me lol.
