I read a thread about Vista the other day but can't remember which thread it was on here now...

I am puzzled as to what to do for the best, as I need a laptop, but no clue now what to do with what was said here the other day that Vista is rubbish mainly, due I think to too many problems, so not knowing whether to get it or not.

Mac was mentioned too - some say that's not too good either, or best just for use in the work place or something.

Can't remember everything said now or all the reasons why not to get these, but don't know for myself if I should go ahead or not??? *scratches head again* - way too technical as per norm LOL. :D

If you just surf the web, write emails, use Microsoft office apps.. then you will enjoy Vista a lot.

If you game, video edit, or do any other memory intensive stuff on your computer, then you will get frustrated with Vista.

It's fine if you are not using that system for gaming. Actaully, it has some really great features in it.

Well, if you use it for gaming, just have the necessary adjustments (Quad-Core, 25092GB of ram, et cetera) :surrender

:jk

My friend has a dual core Intel think-tank, and I think 4 GB of ram; 8800GT (1GB mem), it runs some nice games. His buddy also set up a Vista rig, and played Crysis (2 8800GT -- not sure if there is an X) that ran very nicely.

I cannot wait for StarCraft 2. I currently do not have a desktop. I wonder if it would run on the PS3...

I can't stand vista from a networking standpoint. A lot of times I was at a customers location trying to install a static dsl/t1 internet setup, and I had to get through 80 popups of security bullshit just to open networking properties to install the static IP addressing information. If thats the shit I have to go through, I don't even want to bother with it. I'll stay with XP.

That's UAC (User Account Control). And it can be turned off.

I wanna somehow get that CPU out of the PS3, and hook it up on a desktop mobo.

Thing is sick fast.

Vista is okay, but does get annoying. The next windows will hopefully be better than vista.

I read somewhere recently that Steve Ballmer called Vista a "work in progress." Sorry Steve but when you release a new OS, it better be finalized. Especially after all the hype. XP all the way.

So, what I need to know is this...is there any way that if I buy a new laptop, I can have it with XP as is my PC I use now, rather than Vista at all?

I know that there are some retailers out there that deal specifically with Laptops so they could probably load it with XP instead of Vista if you requested. But I am not sure about that.

Thanks Meirionnydd, was wondering if i cna do that. Only thing is, if going to a computer specialist - rather than a multi store that sells laptops, PC's etc, they could be costly do you think?

I don't have Vista just XP. But I've heard it sucks from many people.

Yep, this is what's been said about Vista Dana - I can't manage XP too well LOL, let alone Vista. :eek
