My little netbook just died. I found a laptop that will do all I need on sale, but it comes with Windows 8. Anybody use it? Like it? Heard anything?

If it turns out to be a hemorrhoid, I might go with that free operating system. What's it called? Is it easy to install?

Like it? What what I tried at the store I will refuse to answer.. :24:

Heard anything? I did hear that Microsoft is making adjustments to make 8 more Laptop friendly in an upcoming release. The problem is too many speculations. If you don't care, just buy it and don't worry about what you MAY or MAY not get.. Live with what you buy..

If it turns out to be a hemorrhoid, I might go with that free operating system.

What's it called? Do you mean Linux Ubuntu version ?

Is it easy to install? All depends on how competent you are. Can you follow these instructions ? ;)

Cheers..

I'm not sure what everypnes issue with Win 8 is.. The girl I'm seeing has it on her laptop. I didn't known you could switch between the panels and a regular desktop!

I accidentally pulled it off on the display models a couple times....What is the exact process for switching to the old interface ...that way he could play with a display model and aid in making a determination.

If you can still get a laptop with Windows 7 go for it..

Windows 8 is really built for Laptops and Tablets / cell phone with Touch Screen.

I was told the basics of the OS system is very close to Windows 7. Not sure how true that is or not..

I played with Windows 8 at BestBuy's and can see how it would work well with a Touch Screen but would hate to have it on a regular Laptop.. Like I mentioned they plan a release update but it will only come with the new systems and not update older software, hence it will be a new package from what i read.

Here is a comparison between the two..

Too late. The pooter arrived this evening. Its taken me a couple of hours to get here, what with setups, updates, & trying to figure this new system out. Once I learn the new controls I think it'll be okay. If not, there's always ubuntu.

The mousepad's kind of a pain. Features are different from any I've had before, and the features I'm used to aren't available. I'll stick with my little wireless mouse. They're easier for me anyway.

Closing windows & apps is a pain in the ass! I'm having to find a thumbnail on the side of the screen and right click to close. Is there a quick way?
