Patrick Ewing is now the head coach of the Charlotte Bobcats. His first game? It was against Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks. The result? The Bobcats lost by 10 points which spoiled his debut. Do you think that this is just first day jitters? Is he really fit for a coaching job?

A coach will always be expected to fail in his first games as a result of trial-and-error. Of course, if he fails too often, the team that hired him will eventually dump him. But coaches don't get better overnight, as they require a lot of patience, enough skill, and guts to shield himself and his team from criticism. As for Pat Ewing, he deserves an opportunity to prove himself. It's too early to tell if he will fail as a coach or succeed as one just because of one game. Sometimes it's all a matter of luck, preparation, or both.
