You can mangle the language all you want, but if you are going to swear, then dammit swear right. It is "fucking" school.

English is easy to learn. Try learning arabic, icelandic, or vietnamese. Long words, funny symbols, different tones with the same word. What kind of person invents such complicated languages? They should be restricted to military use.

English isn't so hard if you were already learning it since primary school like I was.
My main language is Chinese, but because of that, we are able to grasp the basics of English.
For me though, I watched a lot of English TV shows, so I'm not terrible at it.

I have to agree with the OP, Hengrish can be hard to learn just like any other language. But what does make a difference is the hattitude. If you hate the language, chances of you learning it well enough to swear properly [which is a good start] are close to zero. Change your attitude then we'll talk. . .'cuz, heck, this forum is as good as any other ol' book to learn English without all the frigging rules [to bug you].

I think the only way to learn English is to talk it out!
Maybe, by participating on the forums like these will help you a lot ;) but the effective English communication can be achieved by talking with people.
I have learnt it by talking to different people, may it be in real, may be virtually but in the end, its always a fun to learn it!

I don't think English is difficult to learn, at least that's a fact to me. I think it depends on how you learn it to begin with. I always learn as many vocabularies as possible at first because that's how I make up the sentence structures. I learn the English rules first because that's the most important part in English. Always the rules first!

Wait until you're over in our Country, there are so many regional accents/dialects it's so confusing.

I'm from the West Country and that automatically makes me a farmer in the eyes of many

I can't refer to myself as a perfect English speaker but I believe learning English isn't so hard at all. I think it all depends on your attitude to learning, if you believe it's hard then it's hard. And if you believe otherwise then it's not going to be hard. Once you're clear with the 'your mindset' phase, the real form of learning would come easily.

I'm from a country where English is our general language although not my mother tongue. They start teaching us English right from our nursery school days but this fact doesn't even make everyone better in the language because I could point to a lot of people that went through this process and are still not good in the language. But, I think the problem is all about expression; If someone has this kind of believe you have with the fear of being wrong then learning English won't be easy. Hence, it's advisable to always use forums such as this, and also try to speak the language with people irrespective of you speaking it good or bad. As times goes on you'd get better like they say, "practice makes perfect."

There was this guy I met in high school when I was a tenth grader, he couldn't speak English correctly. When he talked, we'd laugh behind his back by the time he was gone. He couldn't keep mute like others of his kind because he had ideas and he felt he had to express these ideas. He couldn't opt for the local dialect because doing so was a taboo that came with severe punishments. Others with his problem would rather shut their mouth up but he went on expressing himself. To cut the long story short, by the time we became 12th graders he was way better than us(who laughed behind his back).

English isn't that bad. Heck, I am a Filipino, yet I prefer to communicate in English. Try to play some video games! That is where I learned most of my English comprehension skills.

On a serious note, we can never deny the fact that English is one of the most important language in the world. Yes, I agree that every language is equal, but we should always try our best to give importance to the English language since majority of the people in the world use that to communicate with people from other countries.

Just try to love the subject. Give it a chance! It's quite tedious trying to learn all the grammar stuff, but once you get a hang of it, it'll be fun!

Trust me, learning English is easy as anything compared to trying to learn Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Korean, or even Maltese!

I dated a woman from Devon and I loved the way she would say "wanker". :D

I've also got a mate who comes from Bristol who gets called a "sheep shagger" a lot, his reply is normally "we don't all shag sheep you know! Some of us prefer goats!"

Learning German was for me far more difficult than English. If you start off learning English with joy you will totally forget the 'barriers' they might have prevent you from doing so. Of course, every beginning is quite quite hard and there will be times when you are literally 'pissed off' , but nothin lasts for ever, as we already got to know, and there will be a time when you look back and think of yourself sitting at your desk totally exhausted and desperate. Then you will end up in a loud laughter. So don't give up on yourself and try to improve your language skills time by time. With a strong will and joy you will be capable to do so.

I don't really find english language a hard one. There are plenty of harder languages all over the world but I guess enlglish is one of the easiest, at least for me. Maybe it is hard for koreans due to the accent and such.

I don't speak any language but English, so I guess I have nothing to compare it to. But I have heard many people say that English is one of the harder languages to learn. Maybe because we have so much slang? It's probably because sentence structure is different from most other languages. Most languages put verb before noun, but in English it is subject first, then verb (usually). The best advice is to learn proper English and don't worry about keeping up with the ever- changing "slang". That way no one can make fun of the way you speak!
