Want to help starving people in Africa with diseases? As well as providing food, teach them basic hygeine! Its no wonder they keep dying of diseases when they piss and shit in the same stream they drink out of, I'm sure burying it in a hole in the ground isn't beyond them!

And Dana, what a lovely attitude, fuck the rest of the world just so long as the USA is ok.

A lot of people share the take care of home first sentiment. do you ever think outside the box? I'm not saying these are necessarily my personal beliefs but it makes you wonder. I could see it being in our good faith, if other power house economic countries had late night infomercials Asking to save an American homeless child. But I'm pretty doubtful that happens.

I agree to a point, I mean if it was a choice between giving my Brother £2 for a sandwich because he was hungry or sending it to Africa to feed an African kid for a week then yes I'd pick my Brother because I always tend to think closer to home. Of course the African kid probably needs it more and the £2 would do a lot more than just buy a sandwich.

I mean World Poverty doesn't really bother me, it's not because of the fact that it's not happening to me because I know that tomorrow I could easily be on the streets homeless. It's because I tend to worry more about other things.

Well, then there is also the part where it's the rest of the world... I mean, why have an infomercial on poverty we see all the time? They do infomercials for children in Africa so we worry about them too, and not forget about them, because it isn't something we see, here, in our day to day lives.

Also, if American children truly were starving to death, they wouldn't do a commercial, they would take it out of our taxes and start another program.

ok...i have a question.....is it only america that gives to 3rd world countries?

I dont know if the rest of the world donates. I know I dont donate anything to 3rd world countries cause im skeptical if its really going to them. Some are legit im sure but most are a scam and I dont know which one is legit and which one is not!

I wont even help homeless people asking me for money cause i dont know if they will actually use it for food. I would buy them a sandwhich and a cup of coffee tho. I would rather buy them 10.00 in food and drinks then give them 5.00 they could use that 5.00 for a 40 bottle of alcohol, cigs or drugs.

better yet, instead of feeding starving children, why dont we give out condoms so those in third world countries will have less children putting less stress on a food supply that is marginal at best to begin with. if you cant take care of your children then please dont have children. yes its really that simple folks.

but yes, why do we not see child fund commercials for american children who go to bed hungry? we have our hungry, our homeless our poor. why ignore them? is being poor in america like being rich in a third world shithole so they dont think your hunger and homelessness is as bad as someone elses that doesnt live in america?

You know, I could kiss you for saying this. By helping these countries with food aid we are hindering them more than helping them. The simple truth about famine in Africa is that there are more people than the land can support, and a famine is nature's way of sorting out the balance. It's harsh and horrible, but it is the way of nature and the world. Survival of the fittest, and all that. And yes, developed nations should look after their own first, because until they do they can't really call themselves 'developed.'

Yes, America is the only country that gives to 3rd world countries.

Really? Then how do you explain the $100m the UK gave to Zimbabwe this October? Or the £825m we're giving to India over the next three years, which happens to be a country with more millionaires than the UK?

You're right. My post was ridiculous, on purpose, to highlight that his post was even MORE absurd.

Dana lives in America, watches American TV, and sees American commercials for an American organization and makes a post about it........and someone's upset that England doesn't get a proper "shout out"? Nobody said a damn thing negative about England at all, yet someone still manages to take offense to not being mentioned? It's absolutely ridiculous.

I don't think sky's post was absurd - quite the contrary. He merely raised the point that this is not an American phenomenon, as is true. I think your sarcasm failed, on this particular occasion.:p
