OK...lets get down to tin tacks here. To be truly unbiased, it would have to be hit ups between actual Rugby and Gridiron players, and continue for a full 80 minutes...not the little spurts your game is played in....so your U.S made scientific vid IS slightly biased in my opinion.
I beleive in Gridrion you have 2 teams? An offensive and a defensive, is that right?
SO...how long would the average player be on field actually "playing "for? and...does an "offensive" player even get hit up that much?
I dont dispute they get hit hard...but they dont nearly as often and they have padding.
ALso...the game is stopped so often they have time to recover between hits...then whole other "teams" are brought in for different "plays"
NOW...A Rugby, AFL, and League player doesnt have the luxury of sitting on the bench while the other "team" is out there...(unless their bloodied and have to).They're on the field for the full 80 minutes...not just for certain "plays".
So...sorry...your little vid hasnt changed my opinion....even if it IS "science" based
BUT...If I'm totally wrong about how your game is played...I'll listen. I've never sat through one...way too stop/start and boring for me.
None of that is relevant though... they wear all of that padding because the hits are harder. Regardless of being tired or anything else... they still hit harder, thus the padding is necessary. The pads have gotten much smaller lately though, as a lot of manufacturers are moving towards built-in pads that absorb more energy with less actual bulk.
I really don't get this, in every sports there are going to be fights one time or another. You will probably like athletics one day, because they don't seem to fight...a lot
But in hockey fights are part of the game. They do it for tactical and moral reasons a lot of the time

Is Rugby even a sport? No one even knows WTF is even going on with scoring, it happens so easily and all. At least with the NFL, you know what is going on at all times, its not a mystery.

With all the protection that gridiron offers, Rugby players' only protection is gumshields to protect the players' teeth, so I don't think it is gay

I've heard rugby described in many ways, but playground rules?? It's needlessly complex sometimes! Especially rugby league
in rugby the scoring is one of the simplest in sport,in that theres basically 3 ways to score points....and i defy any american footballer to lose the pads and go into the front row of a scrum,he'd be destroyed,and i wont even mention the rucking...now i dont deny that those NFL lads are fit boys who takes hits but rugby really would really find them out...now before you presume otherwise i do appreciate american football over all of the sports popular over there,but its no where near as physical as rugby,mainly because rugby's a game of 2 non stop 40 minute halves,no stopping and starting like your game
and as for aussie rules,those boys are nutcases,they go out there to hurt someone,just shorts and vests are the only protection,and as for our football....you should play the game to find out just how rough it can be
I think just about any NFL linebacker could play rugby and break some of the players in half... linebacker is one of the most physically and mentally arduous positions on the field. Often times the MLB pretty much runs the defense, tells people where they need to be, audibles coverages, and all sorts of other stuff. They're generally the most physical and athletic players on defense... not even close to being out of shape.
What a lot of you don't realize is that yes, while there are breaks in between plays, these guys are going full out with ever last bit of effort every single play. Compare that with some other sports, and you'll see guys resting a bit, being on the outside of a scrum keeps you on the field, but you're not really doing a whole helluva lot in comparison to a football play.

I knew a kid back in high school who didn't like watching the NFL because, as he put it, your watching a bunch of fat guys in tights chasing a football.
